After a long days travelling, arriving at the hotel it’s an easy check in, just complete a form with your contact details, then you are taken to your room. We stayed in room 205, which was on the middle floor at the far end so benefited from a pool view and a lovely outlook down to Patitiri and the sea. The room is operated by key cards of which we were given two, these worked fine. The bed was large and very comfortable and crisp linen with two chunky soft pillows each, and with a bedspread if needed. ||There was a triple wardrobe with plenty of coat hangers, this also housed a two-drawer unit and a keypad safe which you can choose your own code (no additional charge). There was also a dressing table with drawers, mirror, and chair and two bedside drawer units, so more than sufficient space for all your belongings. ||Soft towels and fresh linen supplied on a regular basis, and certainly no issue with any housekeeping, it was excellent.||There was a small kitchen area, with a two-ring hob and kettle with cupboards containing cooking equipment and crockery. We never used, as prefer to dine out, but did use the kettle for coffees. The fridge was a mini size and a small narrow compartment for ice cube tray only; There was also washing up liquid and a sponge scourer supplied.||The bathroom had a large shower unit and always plenty of hot water. We thought the lighting was a little dim and the fan connected to the light was quite noisy, but this was not a major problem for us.||The air con was also at no additional charge and was very good. There were net curtains and additional blackout curtains on the balcony doors, which also have shutters, that ensured you aways had a good night's sleep.||The balcony was of a good size with a table and comfortable chairs. An over balcony drying rack was provided and pegs were available to use also.||The pool area was very nice with sufficient sunbeds, table and chairs, bean bags and a sofa area, different choice for everyone’s needs. We never had any problem sitting where we wanted, no need to reserve sunbeds! The temperature of the pool was nice and refreshing and never overcrowded. Peaceful and relaxing, no loud music from the bar area which we prefer. There are plenty of pretty flowers and trees, which accounts for abundance of butterflies, the whole area is immaculately clean and tidy.||The bar stocks a variety of drinks and bottles of Mythos at €4.50 but also sell Alfa. There is also a snack menu available.||The complimentary buffet breakfast was very nice, something which Grandma Sophia is very rightly proud of. Contained an extensive choice of everything. From cooked breakfast, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs or omelette, various cereals, Greek yoghurt, jams, salad, cold meats, feta, olives, cheese & green pies, cakes, pastries, orange or grapefruit juice, teas, and coffee. They grow a lot of their own produce in the land next to the pool area, full of flavour and so very fresh.||The hotel is situated within walking distance from the port, but on a hillside location. There is the usual access via the road and there is a walking shortcut via quite few steps. Not appropriate for those with walking difficulties or if you are particularly unfit. We used these nearly every day and each evening during our three weeks stay and we in our late 50's. There are three lots of steps (photos attached of each of these), we counted these at 42, 40 and 50. Approx 15 minutes down, bit longer on the way back. It can be a challenge, but most steps are shaded from the heat of the day.||This is a family run hotel and all the family we met were friendly and helpful, a special mention to the lovely grandmother Sophia, who gets up very early to ensure breakfast is ready, she also bakes items for breakfast, her courgette pies were very good indeed. Marios, her grandson, nice young man who kept us well supplied with Mythos with whom we enjoyed chatting too very much. Keep picking those Leeds Utd players for FIFA Marios! Finally cousin Korina who is on reception, always very helpful.||In summary an excellent choice for our first stay on Alonissos. We just had one slight issue with a faulty fridge which was subsequently changed for us. We also like to freeze bottles of water to take out to the beach and the ice box was just too small to allow us to do so. Once changed the second fridge allowed us to at least create some ice cubes but if we could recommend one improvement to make the hotel even better than it already is, it would be to have larger freezer compartments. Other than that you can not fault the hotel at all.||Spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast, really lovely family who make you feel so welcome and relaxed. Would not hesitate in recommending staying here.||Visited 14 Jun...
Read moreStayed at Nereides for seven nights in June 2023. Had a front facing room with balcony overlooking the sea / port. |This is a friendly, welcoming, clean, family run hotel with good quality accommodation. Built in the early 1990s by ‘grandpa’ the hotel is a family affair and the small team of six(?) did their utmost to ensure we had a pleasant stay. |Positives: room was spacious, bathroom good with an effective shower. Fridge always on, small but serviceable kitchenette. Beds (hard - how I prefer them). Rooms serviced daily and sheets / towels changed every few days.|Breakfast was great. Choice of continental (great croissants!), seasonal fruit from own garden, cheeses, yoghurt, cereals, juices (cherry!), cakes and a cooked breakfast option too. |Place is spotless. |Pool is a decent size and deep. |Lots of loungers, chairs, tables and settees to lounge around, surrounded by the garden, great views and butterflies on the flowers. |There is a book library in reception. |Bottled water available at the bar / reception as cannot drink the tap water. |Breakfast is served in a lovely open terrace room. |Garden is impressive, extremely well tended and much of the produce used comes from there. |Large car park outside if you hire a car.|Main downside - whilst it’s a quick seven minute walk down the cobbled lanes into town it’s a ten to fifteen minute vertical walk back via three flights of near vertical steps. Great for the legs not so great if you aren’t that mobile. However, lots of taxis available or rent a car. And all restaurants are down in the harbour. |Hints: if your bathroom smells tell the cleaners they will fix it. |Walk up to the old town via the old donkey track only takes twenty mins as you are...
