So... I really don’t know where to start with this review. It’s long overdue partially for good reason but also because I just cannot find words. So let’s start with the beginning of our arrival to Milos and hotel Portiani. My husband and I came to Greece for our One Year Wedding Anniversary after talking about it for years. Milos was our last island to visit. Portiani is walking distance from the port which was great along with shops and restaurants. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted and escorted to our room. We were shocked coming into this hotel knowing it was a 2-Star because a hotel with the same rating in the US is not one you’d typically want to stay in. But this hotel was so sweet and had so much personality. We got settled in and began leaving for our first day in Milos when we decided to follow our noses into the kitchen where we found the same lady that checked us in, Euhtimia, cooking breakfast for the next day! She was so kind and gave us a sample of what we could expect for the mornings to come as they do all of the cooking themselves. It was DELICIOUS. And the full spread over the next few mornings did NOT disappoint! And even though the staff had already shown wonderful hospitality nothing prepared us for what came on our last day on Milos. My husband and I decided to rent our ATV for one last day to access more sights and I ended up flipping the ATV with us on it. To say it was the scariest thing we’ve ever been through is putting it lightly. Being in a foreign country with no idea what to expect when you’ve never been in this position before was insane. The ATV landed on me and shattered my heel. When I had to take an ambulance to the island clinic where no doctor was working due to it being a holiday, our travel agent contacted the hotel to try and help us because we were supposed to leave the next day. Euhtimia brought her sister to the clinic to visit me several times, even going back to her home to make me soup to put something on my stomach. They sat with me while my husband went to figure out how to get the ATV back and pack up our room. Euhtimia literally held my hand for an hour while I was howling in pain. The owner, Katerina, also came by with fresh cheese sandwiches, fruit, and drinks packed for us. Katerina even walked our bags over from the hotel to the Port with another persons assistance while my husband and I were being transported by ambulance. We were literally baffled. Again, all of this being things you wouldn’t see happen in the US. So, after having an AMAZING time in Milos our last 24 hours there were a nightmare. Our only light in that hard time were these wonderful women and all of the other people that came to our aid and showed true humanity in our time of need. The only words I have are, THANK YOU. From the bottom...
Read moreThis hotel is virtually brand-new. The rooms are spacious, clean, practical and very comfortable. The bed was very nice. The room is tidied every day; the lovely lady who was cleaning the room even hung out my washing for me (to save it from my terrible makeshift washing line). ||The reception staff are fabulous, particularly the young man, Jannis, who does the nightshift. He gave great food recommendations. ||The breakfast in the morning is very good. Great selection of Continental breakfast, hot food (eggs, bacon), fresh selection of bread, sweets, fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, array of condiments. Fili is very eager to ensure you have everything you need and desire. ||All the staff are extremely friendly and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was excellent. ||The location is exceptional. You can walk around the port area very easily. There are lots of options for transport close by. We used Safari rentals which is virtually across the road from the hotel (at the back). Next to the rental place is a free parking area which is very convenient to park if you were staying here. Safari rentals are extremely good, reasonable priced, flexible and nice guys. ||I would definitely stay here again....
Read moreSpent two nights at the Portiani mid-September and it proved to be the perfect spot for our short stay on Milos. We had a seaview room on the top floor with a lovely shared balcony. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom modern and spacious. Breakfasts were more than we ever expected - a fabulous buffet with local pies, cakes, fruit, eggs - everything you could imagine, and dear Sophia made certain everyone was well cared for. The ladies at the front desk were also very warm and welcoming, providing us with advice regarding getting to Sarakiniko, etc. There is a bus stop practically outside the door and Milos has a good bus system to shuttle you to other areas on the island. Also, being at the port you are close to many boats for excursions. We selected the Thalissitra and it was a highlight of our two week trip. We highly recommend the Portiani Hotel if you’re looking for a l convenient location in the port, a warm reception, clean updated room, and views of the port. Thank you to the staff for a...
