Here is a place that understands something fundamental: good food does not require theatrics.
The gyros, chicken and pork, are what they claim to be. The meat is brilliant. The prices are fair. In high season Milos, when every taverna within sight of the port seems determined to separate tourists from their euros, Yankos is nothing short of miraculous.
This place sits close enough to the ferry terminal that it has every excuse to be another tourist trap. The location writes its own permission slip for inflated prices and careless preparation. But someone here decided to serve actual food to actual people instead.
You eat at a high top table. You watch the parade of bewildered cruise passengers being herded toward restaurants with menus longer than Homeric epics and half as authentic. Fifteen minutes later you walk away satisfied, your wallet intact, wondering why this simple transaction feels so rare.
The chicken is seasoned properly. The pork has character. The bread holds together. These are not complicated achievements, but in a place where mediocrity commands premium prices simply by virtue of proximity to the water, they feel revolutionary.
Some places earn their reputation through complexity and pretension. Others, like Yankos, earn it by remembering that the best meals are often the simplest ones, prepared without apology and served...
Read moreNote there is the Yankos gyros take away place and then an actual Yankos sit down restaurant- we ate at the restaurant and it did not disappoint.
We stumbled upon Yankos hungry after a morning boat tour, in a prime location by the port and were quickly seated for a lunch service.
We ordered the mixed grill for 2 and were advised it would be a 20 minute wait- a good sign of the freshness of what was to come.
After enjoying a cold mythos beer the mixed grill arrived and we couldn’t believe our eyes. The mixed grill was a huge portion with a wide range of different meats, pita, chips, veggies and sauce. The waiter smiled and wished us good luck with finishing the plate.
We struggled to finish everything and were very satisfied with the meal. The only thing we would recommend is ordering / asking for more tzatziki as the sauces provided don’t go very far with making your own pita gyros on the plate.
Would recommend visiting for an authentic Greek restaurant that serves the classics in a...
Read moreThe service was terrible. I had to ask the waiter after 5 mins to get a menu.( He was talking to a friend), then after 5 mins with the menu I had to go find him to order food.( He was sitting out front drinking coffee and using his phone.) Then I ordered 2 items he brought one. Then after my father finished his breakfast( yogurt and fruit with honey) mine finally came. I asked for extra honey. Which he brought however I finished mine as well (after more then 5 mins) as we couldn't wait anymore. The yogurt was great, however small amount of honey but was also nice, banana was nice the other fruit was ok.( maybe apple). For 9.6 euro. Overall the experience was the worst we had in Greece since we have been here. The best part was the restaurant was slow at the time and my father is ang...
