We stayed in room 6 for ten days. Very very clean room with a large bathroom with a great shower. Balcony was huge with great side views down to Mykonos harbour were you can see the cruise ships and also the kite surfers ( well just the kite bit). This beach just a minute away is mainly for kite surfers. Also views up the street were you can see the traffic which is like the wacky races at times.||||The pool area is a really nice space very boutique style. We had it to ourselves on a couple of days so it was like our own private pool. You can get food and drinks at the bar area. Sun beds are comfy plus there are also a couple of umbrellas ||||Once you leave calm of the hotel, it’s a bit of a shock when you try and cross the road. Sometimes you just have to go for it as it’s a bit mad at times.||||There are two bakeries just outside the hotel and both of them are absolutely spot on. Fresh bread, pasteries , cakes and sandwiches and both bakeries are reasonably priced. There is also a supermarket next to one of the bakeries. One of the bakeries is open 24 hours.||||The bus stop is just up from one of the bakeries were we would get the bus into Mykonos town, two stops around 10 mins cost is 3.60 euros for two of us each way. There are a couple of restaurants in Ornos and just the odd bar so you have to go into Mykonos town if you want something a bit more lively were there are ample bars and restaurants and shops. The town is really picturesque with the blue and white buildings plus you get to see a amazing sunset most nights.||||The main beach in Ornos is about 5 min walk away from hotel were you pass yet another supermarket. This beach is well looked after and very clean. Only thing is the price of the sun beds which we were quoted 120 euros for front two rows (yes really) and 100 euros for ones behind. But you did get 2 beds, 2 towels and umbrella, bargain hey haha.I refused to pay on principle tbh. So we just sat on the sand with our towels and 10 Euro brolly. This area of the beach got really busy, no surprise really. You can also get the water “taxis” here to the different beaches||||The staff at the Gelos are very attentive, the cleaners work extremely hard. Kat is very helpful and nothing any trouble to her. Spoke to the boss a couple of times and he was very hands on. Got the impression he wouldn’t ask his staff to do anything he wouldn’t do himself.||||All in all we had a great time and would stay at the...
Read moreHad the most wonderful time in Mykonos and Gelos House. We had room 1 which is in the pool area (overlooking the pool and on ground level), with its own private space for a sun lounger - it also has its own outside dining area. Apartment on two floors is very nicely decorated, recently refurbished and very clean - twin room and private bathroom (shower) downstairs and double room with private bathroom (shower) on the ground floor. Very spacious (I believe the sofa is a sofa bed), light and airy - kitchenette with fridge, kettle, toaster & twin hob. The hosts, Katerina & Nicholas are incredibly welcoming and helpful (full of advice about what to see and where to go and anything else you need). Special shout-out to the lovely & very accommodating Andreas who mans the bar by the pool (where you can get lunch - delicious Greek salad for me and pizza for my son) - cocktails, beer, coffee etc (it is closed in the evening). There is an ironing board and iron and hairdryers in each bathroom. Gelos House is situated a 4/5 minute walk from Ornos beach, where there are restaurants and bars (sun loungers available to rent for 50 euros for the day for 2 with umbrella - it gets busy & is fun for people watching). Mykonos Town is approx 12 minutes by bus, which you can catch outside Gelos House - on the whole the bus service is good but doesn't run to a timetable particularly (supposed to be on the hour every half hour - just go when you're ready) - we had one day where we couldn't get on 2 buses as they were full and we ended up walking along the coast route to Mykonos Town, which took us 25 minutes (the road is relatively quiet from traffic) - there's always a bus on the way back from Mykonos Town to Ornos). We had a car for 3 days to see the rest of island which is stunningly beautiful. Would definitely recommend Gelos House to anyone planning a stay in Mykonos and would stay here again in...
Read moreStayed for a week end May 22 with Jet 2 holidays. Lovely little complex with superb staff. The cleaner works relentlessly and as result the place is spotless !! Pool area is beautiful BUT there is absolutely no shade other than if you sit on hard dining type chairs next to the bar. I think 2 or 3 parasols might be needed for us Brits. It certainly stopped us using the area as much as we might have - and spending at the bar. The bar man is brilliant, so obliging. We were in room 9. It was fine but no outdoor space attached to the room so if you wanted a coffee outside then you have to take it a short distance to a table and chair set on a small raised up area. It made eating out difficult as you had to keep taking food to the table then back for me etc. also there was a cat hanging around which made me nervous of leaving food even for a moment. In addition we were just sat facing someone else’s balcony. This meant we didn’t sit out as much as we usually do. No bread knife in the room so attempts at cutting crusty bread with a small knife were interesting !! Air conditioning was fab. Location brilliant. Opposite a great beach where you can lay your towel down and watch kite surfers. 3 mins from main beach which is amazing but expensive. 70 euros for a sunbed for the day !! Bakery is 24 hour and is superb 1 min away along with the supermarket. Bus to Mykonos town is every other just across the road and takes 10 mins for 1.80 euro. So pleased we stayed in ornos and travelled into town as we had best of...
