I booked this hotel on points from my credit card. I redeemed a considerable amount of points for a 6 night stay. Long story short, we were on a 40 day tour of Europe. We were at the tail end of our trip and we called this hotel from Santorini to ask if there was a shuttle. The man who answered the phone was very friendly and said he would arrange pick up transportation since the ferry port was only about 4 minutes away. At first, we thanked our lucky stars to have booked this place. We booked an economy room for 2 adults. At the time, we were not sure if my son was going to come with us. My son is only 3 years old. I don't mind him sleeping with me in the bed since we booked two twin beds. ||||When we arrived at the hotel, we were offered an upgrade for $100 euros more. I initially said yes, because we did need the extra room. Right away, the receptionist Vana gave us a receipt for the reservation and asked us to pay $100 euros in cash. Since I was on this 40 day trip, my cash was limited. Since this is a hotel, I am thinking they would charge my card. The hotel kept insisting cash only. This all seemed very strange to me. I asked to speak to the owner and I was given the wrong number. I also did not have a cell phone on me. I found it strange I could not call the owner from the hotel. It seemed as if the receptionist was preventing me from contacting him. ||I finally got the phone number from the best part of the hotel which is the nice couple that clean and maintain the hotel. They tried to help us with every need. The receptionist was very snobby and rude. ||||After all this, I went to get cash and felt awkward because why should I have to pay a cash advance fee when I can just charge my card? This is a hotel, not a little mom and pop store. I told the owner I paid $80 USD in fees just to get $100 euro. He said he would talk to the receptionist and call us back. ||||We get a knock on our door in the evening and the receptionist told us her boss felt he should only gives us half our fees back due to the mixup. Half for them and Half for us. Mind you, we gave them $100 euro cash already, so why should I give them half of my fees? I took the $20 euro offered, because at least it was something, but the excuse they gave was just lame. The hotel said they deserve half because $100 Euro was a small price to pay for the upgraded room. Mind you this is the end of the season and the hotel is empty. Yes, I agreed to the $100 euro, but why is my hotel demanding cash only? They do have the ability the take card. Very shady! It made me think the receptionist was pocketing my cash. ||||I feel sad writing this, because the senior couple that live in the premises were nothing but great. They went above and beyond. Megas should be thanking his lucky stars to have them on the property.||||We have traveled all over the world and stayed in hotels and Airbnb, This was the shadiest transaction I have every encountered. I would NOT recommend for families, long term stays, or seniors. There is nothing in the area and the hike up the hill is very difficult without a car. I would recommend this place for a one night or very short term stay for one person. It is clean, close to the ferry port, and offers a mini-fridge and AC. Just stay alert about any shady strange money transactions. For a budget hotel, decline the upgrade and go with a hotel near a beach. There are plenty to choose for about...
Read moreMy experience with this "hotel" showed how greedy and selfish some people can be. I booked a twin room all the way back in March for a price of 109.35 EUR for two nights (Sep 2 to 4). On the 9th of August, I received an email saying the following "Megas Rooms wants to cancel your booking 3681XXXXX as they haven't received prepayment from you."||||Well, this is strange since I booked with the option to have the amount withdrawn from my account a few days before arrival. Nonetheless, it gave me the option to pay the outstanding amount of 109.35 EUR and so I did. A few days after, Megas room decided to shift the dates to 27-29 Sept (dates whereby I was not even going to be in Mykonos). I immediately thought something was fishy, so I went back on Booking.com to check the price for the original dates and suprise suprise, the price was more than 3x more expensive.||||I contacted Booking.com about this and they were able to move the reservation back to the original dates. A few days later, Megas room did exactly the same thing and hiked the price up once again! In the end, my booking was cancelled and I could not be bothered to deal with these people anymore who make their money in the summer and become lazy in the winter months.||||Funny because, Booking.com contacted Megas room and they told Booking that they were "overbooked". How can you be overbooked when I booked 5 months ahead of time? And in addition to that, make available the exact same room on the original dates at a higher price?||||I would stay away from these vultures as they are tampering with guest's reservations for their own financial gain! I understand that Greece is a poor country, but you shouldn't take such selfish and greedy measures for your own financial gain by tampering with guest's reservations the way that Megas Rooms...
Read moreMy sister and I recently stayed at Megas Rooms and if I could leave this place 1000/10 I would! ||||When we first arrived Thalia met us at the ferry port and took us back to the accommodation which was excellent! When we arrived at the hotel she showed us a map and gave us advice on all the best places to visit, eat and drink and the best modes of transport. ||||The room was spotless, a hairdryer, towels, soap/body wash, a fridge, coffee machine, glasses and crockery were all supplied! The room had its own little terrace with tables and chairs we could sit at as well as a shared terrace over looking the sea. An excellent place to sit with a glass of wine ($1.80 from the supermarket just a few minutes walk away) and watch the sun set. The beds were comfortable with a plug next to each for each of us to charge our phones. There was also ample space for all of our bags and a wardrobe with hangers to hang our clothes. ||||When it came time to leave we were allowed to leave our bags at the hotel while we went to the beach for the morning. We’re able to catch a final few sun rays! ||||Unfortunately our scheduled ferry was cancelled and were given approximately and 1 hour notice to catch the next one. Without the help and generosity of Thalia this would not have been possible!!! Thalia kindly loaded all our bags by herself into her car and met us at the port, without this we would have not made the ferry and would have been stuck in Mykonos. ||||I cannot rate this place highly enough, all the staff were fabulous! Lovely, kind and helpful people. I would visit again...
