Mathios Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of Mykonos

We arrived at Matthew’s Tavern originally just here as a starting point for our boat day, but were immediately blown away by this incredible restaurant. Although we hadn’t planned to eat here, we were taken aback by the charming atmosphere and out-of-this-world service. We were in a rush and the lovely lady scuttled to check with the kitchen and then rushed to make us the best Strapatsada on the island in just 5-7 minutes. The croissants were better than any we had ever had in France and the lovely lady made us feel like she was our mom and that we were in the comfort of our own home.

This is truly an amazing establishment. So amazing, in fact, that we committed the cardinal sin of returning to the same restaurant twice. We were drawn back not only by the elegant Greek environment that they foster but also because of the menu with a breadth of traditional and delicious Greek dishes.

We all got the moussaka and were blown away by both the speed with which it was brought and the freshness of the ingredients. They make their meals with love and they serve them with a side of smiles and dessert of good vibes. We can not recommend this restaurant...

That is the real kingdom of cats!!! I bought 2 dishes, both with meat and cheese. It's not started yet. The first cat came from nowhere, She looked at me, not asking for anything. Gust looking. I had meatballs. Gave her a piece. Turned around - 10 cats sitting and waiting! Black, white, red, multicolor... We started eating. Obviously, I started feeding them They were eating very accurately. Sometimes lightly bites each other. All of a sudden, I was feeling something warm under my left arm. There, on a chair, was the bravest cat! She decided to eat from the table. Well, cats are the owners in that restaurant! And the owners must be respected! This cat settled comfortably next to me. Kicked all the other girlfriends with her paw. Maybe an hour or more passed. The cats and I, or rather the cats, ate my entire lunch. I realized that I was not hungry at all! I drank delicious coffee and tea. As I was leaving, I saw the cat's "dining room". There were so many delights there! Everything is fresh! Then everything became clear! The cats didn't want me to be sad while eating a really...

The food here is among the best I’ve had on the island. The staff was quick, very kind, and even managed to find us a table despite the place being packed and us arriving without a reservation. The quality of the food was excellent, with a very fair price-to-taste ratio. The restaurant is nicely decorated, bright, and welcoming, with a lovely view of the new port. It truly feels very Greek—I highly recommend it.

I wanted to come back a second time but unfortunately didn’t have the chance. If I can give you a tip: portions on the island are generally generous, so if you can, share the more filling dishes like the moussaka, which I found absolutely divine. That way, you can taste more options. I also loved the addition of capers in the Greek salad—it was the final touch that perfectly rounded out the harmony of flavors, something I haven’t always found in other restaurants. The tzatziki was truly delicious.

One small note: by mistake, I asked for bread assuming it would be pita, but it wasn’t. Something to remember...
