I really, really wish we could give this place hundreds of stars. I have never felt more cared for at a hotel, and I've done a fair amount of traveling. I'm not even sure where to start - we had a bumpy arrival from a nearby island, and happened to show up on my birthday. They arranged a pickup from the port, which was a great way for us to get our bearings in a new place. At arrival they made us feel so welcome with a drink greeting and a snack, which was so sweet. Unfortunately, my husband had an emergency tooth issue upon arrival, and my attempts to call nearby dentists for immediate availability didn't work. We asked the lovely staff of Grotta if they had any advice - as my husband was in need of an emergency root canal - and they immediately sprang into action: asking friends for an English-speaking dentist, booking an appointment, hailing a cab, and getting us there magically all within about 10 minutes. I couldn't believe it! They really saved the beginning of our vacation all within our first hour. When we came back from the dentist a few hours later we ordered dinner and I'm not exaggerating when I say their food was the best on the whole island (honestly as wonderful as Naxos is, we kept eating out and being slightly disappointed that no dinner was as great as the food at Grotta). Of course in their amazing hospitality, they served us a beautiful birthday dinner with an ADORABLE and delicious celebratory cake and cocktails, helping us immediately forget the crazy day we had hours before. I am so thankful for the entire staff's kindness and helpfulness. But it didn't stop there! We cherished every facility they made available - the breakfasts were INCREDIBLE and awe inspiring, the spa was tranquil and relaxing, and we spent many nights on the rooftop deck having drinks and taking in the BEST view of the sea/city that we could find on Naxos. When we decided to go to the beach, they provided us with umbrellas and towels. When we rented a car, they were available for key drop off. When we had questions, they would provide answers with smiles and warmth. When our clothes needed a refresher, they provided laundry services. When we left, they helped us with a cab. Without a doubt, our trip to Naxos would not have been as enjoyable if we didn't book with Grotta. We had so much fun that we actually cancelled a leg of our trip just so we could spend more time with all of them. It was hard to leave and we can't wait to come back. Thank you so much for one of the best vacations we've ever had, for making my birthday so enjoyable, and for helping us in a moment of medical need. AMAZING. I will spend the rest of my days encouraging friends and...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived until the sad moment we had to leave, our experience at Hotel Grotta was truly perfect. This isn't just a hotel; it feels like stepping into a warm and welcoming home, and it's all thanks to the remarkably friendly staff. I genuinely mean all of them. Every single person we encountered, from the reception to the breakfast team, went above and beyond to ensure our happiness. They constantly checked in on us, always with a genuine smile and a desire to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It felt so personal and truly made all the difference.
And speaking of comfort, I have to say this is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in, and this is not an exaggeration. Every corner, every surface, sparkled. It was truly impressive and added so much to the feeling of relaxation and well-being.
Our room was wonderfully spacious, and waking up to the gorgeous ocean view was an absolute treat. Our peaceful balcony, overlooking the charming town, was the perfect spot for a morning coffee or an evening drink.
Hotel Grotta's location is fantastic, with Naxos town just a short walk away. It's worth noting that the path down is a rather rocky path along the beach, and while it's only about a 5-minute walk, it might be a little challenging for older individuals or those with limited mobility. However, the proximity to town was very convenient for us.
Now, let's talk about the breakfast – prepare to be amazed! It was hands down the largest hotel breakfast I have ever seen. The spread was delightful, featuring a wonderful array of local pastries, savory pies, delicious cakes, fresh vegetables, and a wide assortment of juices, coffees, and other drinks. It truly felt like someone had lovingly prepared this feast specifically for the hotel guests. This wasn't your typical, mass-produced hotel breakfast; it felt homemade and incredibly thoughtful, further reinforcing the feeling of being welcomed into someone's home.
The free transfers to the port were also an absolute lifesaver and a testament to Hotel Grotta's commitment to guest convenience. Hotel Grotta is truly a gem. It's so different from the impersonal, corporate feel of many other hotels. It felt like the owners and staff genuinely care about their guests and have poured their heart into creating a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back to this exceptional hotel on our next visit to Naxos. Thank you for an...
Read moreWe saw the reviews and booked Grotta Hotel, thinking there’s no way a hotel can be this perfect. We started following them on Instagram, and we drooled over the breakfast photos for weeks in anticipation. It did not disappoint, and the hotel actually exceeded our high expectations.
The positive attitudes and spectacular hospitality of the staff were greatly appreciated. Marine, Penny, and Sofia were especially fabulous, kind, and helpful.
The stay included pick up and drop off to the ferry and airport, and that made arrival and departure very easy.
The hotel was spotless and well-appointed.
It’s nice to have to sea view from the balcony, but don’t worry if a sea view room is not available to book. You will be enjoying the spectacular view every morning at breakfast as the waves crash against the rocks near Apollo’s door.
We visited during October, near the end of the season. There was quite a bit of wind, but the breakfast/dining area shields you from it so you can enjoy the views in peace while drinking their homemade wine, some say the best in the universe.
And the breakfast…Mama‘s breakfast. A mix of the most delicious savory dishes and sweet. The espresso machine yields as many cappuccinos as you can handle with the touch of a button. A nice, tasty treat also magically showed up in the room every afternoon.
Dinner is available at the hotel if you want a cozy night in and don’t want to do the short walk to town. We were pleasantly surprised with the occasional complimentary little dessert, including homemade ice cream and other deliciousness.
The indoor spa area was available to reserve for 30 minutes at a time (more if no one has reserved after you). It was very private and cozy. It consisted of a very warm plunge pool, a hot jacuzzi, a steam room, and a toasty sauna.
Other highlights of the stay in Naxos included a cooking class with Anna at Basiliko Tavern near a little village. Don’t worry if google says the tavern is closed - just send her an email to coordinate. The meal we made with vegetables picked from the garden was delicious. We opted not to rent a car and just took a taxi there for 25 euro each way. The hotel staff were kind to coordinate the taxi for us.
