My partner and stayed at this hotel for 7 nights on a half board basis with Jet2. Upon arrival at approximately 3am, a lovely gentleman checked us in, offered us some food and gave us some water to take to the room. We found all the staff throughout our stay to be welcoming and helpful. ||||We stayed in room 106, which is classed as a double room. Unfortunately, this room wasn’t suitable for a couple. We had no wardrobes or drawers which meant all our clothes had to stay in our suitcases (or on the floor) and we’d need to rummage through the cases daily to find outfits. This became a huge inconvenience, and the cases took up the hallway space in an already tiny room. The room did have a small rail above the safe with 5 hangers, which we made use of. It would have been useful to have a full length mirror too, rather than a small vanity one at the end of the bed. We did have a mini fridge, but it was blocked by the bed side table so we didn’t utilise this - yes we could have moved the table if absolutely necessary, but it would have been like a game of Tetris trying to move everything around without blocking another passage.||||Despite the lack of storage, the bed was really comfy and the room was modern and clean. The bathroom was a decent size and had a lovely walk in shower. Our balcony was small and very over looked - the room next to us could see directly into our room (their balcony joined ours in front instead of to the side) with which meant we often had the curtains closed (a bit of a shame when Greece was so nice and sunny). Because of this we didn’t use the balcony often, it felt too intrusive. ||||The room was equipped with towels, bathrobes, slippers and a hair dryer. A kettle with some coffee/tea/milk sachets would have been nice but based on the website’s description I wasn’t expecting this. ||||Location wise the hotel is perfectly located for shops, restaurants, supermarkets and the old town harbour. It took us approximately 5 minutes (if that) to walk into Rethymno old town. There is a taxi rank just outside the hotel which is useful, and often had taxi’s waiting. The staff on the front desk were really helpful and advised us on estimated taxi costs to certain locations. ||||The restaurant in the hotel was pleasant, plenty of seating and space for all guests. The breakfast was nice but could have offered a bit more variety. Although we were half board, we opted to dine out every evening as there are so many restaurants in old town Rethymno. ||||Lastly the roof top pool was great, there are lifts available if you’d prefer this to the stairs. There is a small bar which serves drinks and food at an extra cost. Good amount of sun beds available so we never had an issue getting 2 in the morning. Pool is a generous size and there was a shaded area with table and chairs which is nice. ||||To conclude, we would 100% recommend this hotel to others and would likely go back ourselves as long as we stayed in a...
Read moreThis is going to be a long one so bear with me as I want to make sure I give a proper representation of this place. For reference, this was me and my friends, both 18 year old females, first holiday by ourselves (without family) and Rethymno was the perfect destination, we felt so safe and welcomed no matter where we went. I just arrived back today after a week at Jo An Palace and this place is fantastic, we were worried when booking as you get the odd review from people who are so picky with hotels and think they’re food critics but this place was perfect. The hotel is gorgeous, everywhere is spotless, we were gobsmacked when we arrived, even more so by the room. The beds were so comfy, the bathroom was perfect, aircon was amazing, even having us too cold at points. The food, I will admit, was hit or miss, this didn’t take away from the total experience, some of the foods where a bit odd for our pallets but when you found a food you liked it was extraordinary, especially the chicken, which was the most soft, tender and moist chicken I’ve ever had. Even when there was the odd food we didn’t like, there was still options for everyone no matter how picky you are. The location was absolutely perfect, little supermarket just across the road great for grabbing bottles of water and other snacks, about 5 minutes away from the old town, 15 minutes from the beach (you can’t swim in that one) but if you walk 10 minutes to right from there, there’s a bigger beach with sun beds, water sports and a bar. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming, so much so one evening we had bought a bottle of wine each from the supermarket, forgetting we didn’t have a bottle opener for the wine, but we went to the bar and just asked if they could open it for us and it was no issue whatsoever. Another thing to note was the lunch box, we were half board so just lunch and dinner but if you tell them you’re going on an excursion and might miss breakfast they’ll make you a lunch pack up and bring it to your room which I just thought was so sweet. To conclude, this place exceeded our expectations and we had such an amazing time, as young female women alone abroad for the first time I was a bit nervous but it was a fantastic experience. Thank you Jo An Palace for an amazing stay and thank you to the wonderful staff that made us feel...
Read moreTravelled with Jet2 to this hotel. Check in was straightforward with a friendly and helpful receptionist. The double room allocated was quite small but adequate for a solo traveller although it was lacking in storage space. There was a rail with 5 hangers for clothes and no drawers so not really suitable for more than one person. The room had a fridge and also a safe. The safe was charged at 2 euros per day which I think should be included in the room as it is classed as a four star hotel. I was also disappointed to find there was no kettle in the room. The room details on the website do advertise a kettle so this needs to be addressed. Again, as a four star hotel, some of the basic facilities seemed to be lacking. The bed was very comfortable and everywhere was very clean. Linen changed after 3 days and towels about the same. The bathroom was very modern, great shower and toiletries were supplied as well as slippers and a bathrobe. |I was half board but chose not to eat dinner there, apart from one evening, as there are so many authentic Greek restaurants in the town. Breakfasts were very good with a big choice of hot and cold food. The dinner I had was not really Greek food and not very hot, so pleased I was able to eat out.|There is a lovely roof top area with sunbeds. Not sure how easy it was to get sun beds as I dont normally do much sun bathing and prefer to be out and about.|The hotel is located just 5 minutes walk from the start of the old town so it is ideal for getting around. There are some very reasonable trips in the town to the south of the island, which I would recommend.|Overall I had a lovely week in Rethymnon and would not hesitate to use the hotel again. The location is great and the staff were always helpful and friendly. As to the rating, due to the lack of some basic ameneties I would only give this a 3...
