Stayed at the Dessole Olympos Beach hotel for 4 nights from the 11th - 15th of October and found the hotel to be just "meh" I suppose overall, it is rated as a 4 star hotel, but found it fell a bit short for me. Firstly - I want to say 90% of the staff there are lovely and polite, there were a select few that were a bit obnoxious, but for the majority, very pleasant. Secondly - If you go in October don't expect anything in the form of entertainment / evening entertainment, poolside music or games, they class October as "end of season" even though the weather whilst we were there was in the high twenties. Thirdly - We had two rooms, and I will refer to them as "room 1" and "room 2" both rooms were a bit dated, in terms of decor and utilities. Room 1 - The Fridge leaked all over the floor when it was turned on, to later find an ants nest had taken up residents behind it, the air-con didn't turn on either and the shower, was a bath tub / shower combo with a questionable shower curtain. Room 2 - Also had a fridge which we didn't turn on because we were un-sure if it would do the same, the air-con system however did turn on (Hurray!)... but that is all it did, it didn't actually work as an air-con more of a fan mounted in the ceiling blowing air across the ceiling (useful). We did however have a walk in shower in our room instead of a bath / shower combo, which we were grateful for. So essentially I suppose it is just room lottery to whether or not you get a fully functioning room. (Bit weird) Lets move on to the food. The food is a buffet, the style of the food changes each night (e.g. Italian one night, next night Greek, etc.) it consists of roughly 14 different things to choose from in large trays and it is OK it isn't great and it isn't bad either, pretty average nothing too special. The breakfast is essentially the same every morning and I hope you like mini Frankfurt sausages and chewy smoked bacon every morning, if not then stand by the toaster grill and play the game of hot potato as you have to put your bread through the grill half a dozen times before it starts to toast the bread. The eggs weren't too bad, neither were the pastries or the cereal. The Ala Carte menu is essentially what ever they had left from the morning and lunch menu re-heated given some sparkle and then served to you hoping you won't notice. Ok, so now lets move onto the next point, the hotel from the rear looks bigger than it is from the pictures and this isn't the case, half of it actually belongs to the hotel next door and in the pictures I have scribbled out the parts in red that don't belong to the hotel. It is mis-leading and gives you the illusion it looks bigger than it actually is, especially that lovely looking tennis court which you can't play on, the beaten up one to the left is your one. I admit I chuckled when I realised. I suppose I have been rather negative so far, so time for some positives, erm, the alcohol is great, you are never too far away from a bar to get a drink, the beach was clean and the sea was lovely, the view from the balcony and the hotel in general was lovely. A nice like plaza area on the door step of the hotel which was nice, so you didn't have to walk far to get anywhere. In summary, I probably wouldn't go here again, overall the place was OK and that is it, not what I would expect from a four star hotel maybe a three star hotel but not a four star. If you do decide to go, I wouldn't recommend going in October as there is little to nothing going on. I hope you win on the room lottery. Oh and the sunbeds aren't the same as the ones in the photo either, well not the ones around the pool, they are like cheap flimsy metal ones that if you sit up and then lean back you will fall flat on your back almost all of the time which is entertaining for people around you, but not so funny after the third or fourth time!
Hope this helps anyone wanting to stay...
Read moreFor context, we stayed in a room on the 6th floor with a sea view, all inclusive for 8 days. This was a hotel we were moved to due to the previous hotel overbooking (being told 2 weeks before we were supposed to leave).
Positives: The staff, as most people say, are incredibly friendly and helpful; no matter what time of the day they always have an answer and a solution for the problems that arise. The main shame is that there were so many problems that came up that the help they gave, whilst good, felt like something that could have been easily anticipated before the problems even arose. This is the same for the animation team, all incredibly nice people when performing or meeting them in the elevator. The drinks (alcoholic and non) are tasty and bottomless, with the pool & snack bar being open until late in the night anything from a sprite to a Margarita is easy to get. They are also simple, but the variety in the menu is easy to enjoy. The food is okay (passable, sometimes actually good) depending on the day and what was available. The fact that it's a buffet style makes it easy to personalise what you want and there isn’t any pressure of ‘more expensive’ foods being unavailable, almost everything was continuously refilled throughout the evening. They also have two places to get food (for lunch), the main restaurant and the snack bar down by the beach that have different foods. The views: with the seaview room the upside was the view - over the endless sea with the beach and on the top floor there was a lot of privacy of people not being able to see you up in your own balcony.
Negatives: The room: is /old/ and it feels like it; no soundproofing in the rooms (we heard people throwing up all night & the animation team outside doing discos until 11 + PM at night) which made it hard to sleep. The AC works, but is loud and uncomfortable; with no updates from the hotels opening in the 70s! You either have to sacrifice the noise of the AC and sleep in silence, boiling alive under stained sheets, or have the AC on blaring and creaking as if it’s alive. Seeing the hotels on either side in all their glamorous glory, it’s like being the ugly duckling with no chance of becoming a swan after 50 years in the business. The food: After 3 days it got incredibly boring to have the same variant of salad with meat on the side, desserts that are just drenched in honey or too dry and flavorless it became a huge bore to eat. All the flavors blended into one! The entertainment: for adults or kids, also made the whole holiday blur into one. Water yoga in the morning, water polo in the afternoon, some form of disco in the evening every single day. The team seems nice enough but if you’re there for longer than 3 days, the repetitiveness (whilst you’re trying to sleep) of YMCA, Dancing Queen and Senorita becomes a maddening background noise. The pool: No matter what the time of day was, how warm it was outside, the amount of people in the pool was not warm at all. Capping out at a height of 1.3m if you want to swim or do anything other than float around, it becomes almost impossible. Not to mention that you can’t stand in the water on the other side of the pool bar with a drink from said pool bar.
To summarize, the whole thing was okay, not good, not bad, but passable. But for something considered a 4 star hotel, it doesn’t feel like that at all. It’s a 3 star hotel running on the fumes of a 4 star review they probably...
Read moreWe take one week to go Holidays to Rhodes and we reserved on Olympos Beach Hotel with my girlfriend.
If we can make a resume and rate of our trip at this hotel step by step that’s gonna be like bellow.
Reception : 5/5 ➡️ Really available, listening about theirs clients, take to time to answer to our question.
Room and cleaning : 4.5/5 ➡️ Room was enough for a couple but I take off a half of point because we went with my GF at this hotel and they give us 2 separate bed… Room has everything you can need (mini fridge, Wi-Fi, balcony with sea view). Room cleaning servis was wonderfull, really clean everyday. You have everyday clean towels.
Kitchen Self Servis and Snack Room : 3.5/5 ➡️ This is what you need to works, we talk with a lot of people from this hotel during our holidays and everybody said the same facts. Main self restaurant was not good, you don’t have many choice as people can wait. The entrees was always same salads, same tzatziki, same cheese… The other foods, mostly fish seems like ok, but I’m allergic and I can’t eat I asked to reception to do something. Tomorrow was little bit better but seasoning of dishes were not enough. During 3 of our 7 days in hotel we get differents desert but I don’t know if the chief had a sale on cinnamon but we eat all desert with it… Breakfast was always same no change in one weeks. The snacks room was way better from self… you can found everything you need and this is really tasty! You have choice, pizza, pasta, gyros, some desert. This is why you got 3.5/5.
Animation/Bar Service : 10/5 ➡️ This is probably the most important, and you can thanks your animation team who try to make fun everybody. Bar service and barmaid what to said about them except a big thanks to all of them especially to Giannis who made us nice cocktails, nice talks and really funny guys. To hotel manager don’t lose this guys he really need promotion! And we want to see him if we comeback to this hotel.
That’s was really pleasure to see all of you we give you 5/5 me and my girlfriend because of all our good moments with Giannis and animation teams, wishes the best for the hotel. Hope to see again this team and...
