Kalisperis Hotel — Hotel in Municipality of Thira

This hotel is not what you see in the pictures. Pictures are old and does not represent the current standard. Rooms are old and worn out. Balcony and jacuzzi have old and dirty paint. Balcony also had high walls which felt sitting in a tomb. Road was just outside with heavy noise night and day, and during our 14 days stay we therefore didnt have one single night of good sleep. Noise from other rooms above were also very disturbing. We paid for doubleroom but only got economy room, after we complained, and were first given a horrible room with moldy and worn out bathroom when we arrived. Description of doubleroom was «garden view» when we booked, but was later removed after we arrived and complained. There is no garden in this hotel either side, and most rooms are facing the heavy trafficated street directly outside the room. We were offered 3 other rooms, but none were according to the standard described in photos and text we paid for, and ended up with a cheaper economy room (according to category/photos on hotels.com) facing directly the street. Included breakfast was so poor that we bought and prepared our own from the supermarket the entire stay. |We have been spending our holidays at Santorini since 1989, and this was the worst hotel so far, overpriced for the actual standard. Not recomended.|We tried to get a refund trough hotels.com and they called the hotel to ask, and the manager refused to refund a single cent, according to hotels.com support staff. The only compensation hotels.com was willing to offer for 14 days of misserable holiday, was 90€ out of the 650€ they have collected in comission from the hotel for our stay. |Sad to see a greek taking so little pride in his work and hospitality the greeks are...

This is a great hotel for people who want to see the island, not only the tourist towns. It's in a residential area that allows you to see how the locals actually live and allows you to visit wonderful local restaurants that are not tourist traps. But it's also served by local buses and is so central that it is ideal for getting around. We walked around the whole island, which would not be for everyone because there are not really many footpaths. But the hotel being where it is meant that nowhere was that hard to reach. It has a pool and many of the rooms also have their own outdoor tubs. The rooms themselves are fairly basic, but very clean and well appointed. The staff are lovely and extremely helpful. I heard them giving really detailed advice in at least three languages. They couldn't have been more welcoming. The one thing that could be better is the breakfast. The food on the island is really outstanding in general. So the genetic, cheap produce provided in the breakfasts at this hotel kind of stood out. It is not awful. But it could easily be a lot better. Having said that, if you go out and see the island, you will certainly have an amazing lunch and dinner. So who cares if breakfast doesn't blow you away? I'd really recommend this hotel for people wanting to see the island and would be very pleased...
