Holidaying in Molyvos and at Villa Iris was one of the most enjoyable and memorable experiences I have ever had.||Let's get the negatives out of the way. It's a long 105 minute coach ride from the airport to Molyvos with no toilet facilities on board and given the Jet2 20.30 arrival time, it's very late indeed by the time you finally arrive.||Molyvos is built on a very steep hill and most of the streets are cobbled so care and stamina are required when walking. This is especially true when climbing up to the castle. Apart from the village train taking you to Petra and Anaxos further down the coast, there are no local buses.||Villa Iris is situated some way from "the action" and especially from the scenic harbour with its many restaurants. However, there are more options for walking. Up the hill from the hotel is the castle; down the hill takes you either to the main street or to the old town in ten to fifteen minutes.||We are already on the positives! Molyvos is absolutely stunning by day of night and has lovely seaside restaurants (with almost identical menus!) and a good selection of shops.Well worth the €9 is the hop on and off village train to Petra - a very interesting place with lots of alleys and shops plus a church perched on a huge outcrop - and Anaxos, a sleepy laid back beach resort. Both villages have superb sandy beaches unlike Molyvos which has only a very narrow shingle strip or no beach at all.||The first thing to praise about Villa Iris are the managers, Ignatis and Evi, who were so friendly and hospitable. On arrival late at night, we were offered beer and wine and we stayed up chatting for at least another hour. In the morning the breakfast spread was fabulous with healthy food prepared by either Evi or her mother or it had been locally sourced. ||Villa Iris is billed as a two star hotel but my room was spacious for one person and I had a lovely terrace on which to sit out with views of oleander and wisteria in the garden and mountains and fields further away. Another feature of the hotel is its large patio where we ate breakfast under apricot trees, bougainvillea and other flowering plants.||Heartedly recommended for people who like rural simplicity, good food and welcoming...
Read moreWe were 2 couples that stayed at the Iris for nearly 2 weeks in August. We were met by Ignatis & Evi who helped us with our luggage to our rooms and a few minutes later bought us a cold beer each! Very much appreciated as it was hot! They had also put a big bottle of water in the fridge for us. ||The rooms are fairly basic but they are cleaned every day and they're big enough to move around in. Air conditioning was either on or off but thank god it was there! The views are amazing (we overlooked the front of the hotel, our friends the back and the castle). Ignatis & Evi are the best hosts. So much knowledge about Lesvos, always ready to help with anything and told us of their plans for the hotel to upgrade it. They have already started with a few beautiful upgraded bathrooms and they intend to carry on once the season is over. ||I couldn't recommend this hotel more. It's beautiful as it is, with fabulous breakfasts eaten under a wisteria covered courtyard. The hosts are so lovely and it's in a really good position for the shops, restaurants, for parking and for moving around the island. I look forward to seeing the upgraded rooms and thank Ignatis & Evi and their family for the most...
Read moreOur stay at Iris Villa Hotel was truly exceptional, and I would unreservedly recommend it to anyone seeking a tranquil and restorative retreat.
Foremost among the many positive aspects was the outstanding hospitality of the owners. They provided thoughtful, personalized recommendations for local attractions and readily accommodated our special requests, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made us feel thoroughly at home.
The hotel’s location is also noteworthy, offering an ideal environment for relaxation.
A particular highlight was the charming courtyard where we enjoyed breakfast each morning. The meal featured a selection of premium local products, allowing us to savor the culinary heritage of Lesbos. It was a delightful beginning to each day, enriched by the freshness of the offerings and the serene ambiance of the setting.
Breakfast included fresh local bread, local feta cheese, greek salad, handmade cakes and sweets, orange juice, coffee, tea, olive oil, eggs, ham. Everything...
