Pension Gerania is a charming guest house situated in a quiet area of Assos. It's located on a walkway just above the town square but is far away enough to be away from the hubbub. The owner greeted us with orange juice and took time to welcome us to Assos. He didn't speak English so and I do not know if there is someone else that might speak English, Italian, or another language. The rooms are very basic but clean. Our room, number 3, has a balcony with a harbor view which was lovely. That said, we were on a lower floor and I imagine the floor above us may have a slightly nicer view. The room also has a good air-conditioning, a medium refrigerator, and a hot water kettle. The bathrooms have been recently updated. The water is not potable but that is the case across the island. Breakfast is available for a small fee. There is free Wi-Fi and free parking that is very close to the pension although is down a steep road.
Update: On day 2 of 4 of our stay, we noticed the air conditioning unit was not blowing cold air. We turned it off and opened the doors which, while nice, brought on mosquitos. The next morning I turned it on and it worked fine. Nevertheless , I brought this to the attention of our host. He said everything was fine with the unit and that we must have changed a setting. We had not touched the settings but since it was working we let it go. On the night of day 3, the unit stopped working again in the middle of the and we again opened the balcony doors. The next morning, my girlfriend went to take a shower. I heard a yelp from the bathroom. She said the water was electrified. Sure enough the water coming out of the shower and the bathroom sink was electrified and delivered a small but constant shock. I notified the cleaning staff. The owner called an electrician who said that the problem was a municipal one. He said that the air conditioning unit was being underpowered as a result of the...

Read moreWe spent two nights at Gerania Hotel and were overall happy with the choice. ||Location: about 300 meters from harbor, on hill (slightly steep walk up, if you decide to walk). Restaurants, cafes and supermarkets at harbor.||Checkin/out: very quick, friendly owners who gave us some tips.||Parking: available, free, right next to hotel, just a bit tricky to find the first time you arrive.||Room – very small, especially since there was a third, extra bed that we had not requested inside the room; this meant no space for suitcases and to place things on. No TV, no chair or table. But there was small cupboard with hangers, a fridge. One socket next to bed, one above fridge (which didn’t look very appealing from outside). 2 coffee cups, 2glasses one plate; water cooker; complimentary coffee/tea sachets; complimentary mosquito repellent. Other than that, it is a...
