Villa Chara — Hotel in Skiathos Municipality

Villa Chara is about as bad as it gets.

This place has so much potentional to be clean, and friendly.

However it's a dirty, mouldy hole. My pillow cases and towels had stains from other guests. This was nothing to do with me. Despite the owner being adamant it was.

The place doesn't have proper showers as advertised or a pool as some photos on review sites suggest. The air conditioning is always chargeable. As the windows don't have netting it's either be eaten alive by inspects or cook in the stifling hot rooms.

There is no WiFI either.

The beautiful garden looks like the amazon, the grass far too long for relaxing in safely. It is unkempt and needs some serious work.

The owner behaved in a way that is rude and obnoxious. Actually tried to punch me too on checkout. Luckily my reflexes are quick and I stopped that from happening.

The only day the apartment was cleaned was the day a Jet2 rep finally agreed to come and visit the place. Then it was properly cleaned and the mouldy fridge and dirty pillow cases replaced.

The complex and indeed the entire island is overrun with cats, perhaps someone should import a large hungry wolf.

I feel compelled to review this accommodation as the most recent reviews worried me before my stay, yet they really needn't have done. Villa Chara is marketed as a 2/3* accommodation, and this is exactly what it is. The location is great - a stone's throw from the beach and a 15 minute walk into the hustle and bustle of Skiathos Town, with lots of supermarkets and restaurants in the vicinity. Our room was clean and tidy and our towels were changed during our stay. There is also an outdoor shower which can be used in the event of late return flights, which we used and it was no bother. The owners are an elderly couple, not rude at all, just with very little English, and we actually found them to be very helpful and available whenever we needed them. A/C is an extra 7 Euros a day, but we didn't need it and found that simply opening the patio doors for a little while let enough cool air in for us. The main road IS noisy; I did need earplugs myself but my friend, who doesn't struggle with noise, slept well. Overall, Villa Chara is exactly as it is advertised and there is no need to worry. If you are unwilling to stay in a 2-3* level of accommodation, then do look elsewhere and pay more. But we had a lovely, simple and...
