What a fabulous 2 week holiday we had staying at the Golden Sunset hotel, Skala Rachoni on the Island of Thasos. We were looking for a family holiday away from the crowds and somewhere we could re-connect as a family, after my son being away at university. With a 19 and 12 year old, my husband and I decided, that we weren't looking for a hotel to provide entertainment or kids clubs, we wanted to do things as a family. |After looking at many hotels the Golden Sunset ticked all the boxes. Small with only 12 rooms, on the beach and with a pool. We choose 2 rooms one double with sea view and a mountain view studio for the kids, which comprised of 2 double beds and a small kitchenette, which was fine for preparing breakfast and light lunches. There are some lovely taverna's for either lunch or dinner, our favourite being Gekas. The hotel also offered breakfast and light snacks, but if you're looking for an English Breakfast or Fast food you won't find that at Skala Richoni. What you will find is freshly cooked fish dishes and local delights, the wine was also very good.|The Golden Sunset Hotel is set in an idyllic location, within easy walk of the Taverna's along the beach front. We sat on our balcony most nights with a glass of wine watching the glorious sunsets over the sea. The hotel is spotlessly clean and Ellie, Andras and Tammy, did everything to makes us feel welcome and were very informative, with nothing being too much trouble. If you're looking for a place to unwind, relax, reflect I would not hesitate in recommending the Golden Sunset Hotel.|To do tips, while you're there, visit Arriba Bar, chilled out and also perfect at sunset, watch out for the chocolate Tequila! Hire a car, drive into the mountain villages and visit the other glorious beaches. Highlight of the holiday, a 7 hour cruise around the island, stopping at glorious bays and swimming in the warm, crystal clear Aegean sea. Our Captain Panos was informative and cooked the best seafood lunch, we booked this through Thasos sailing. The hotel was booked direct with Tammy, paying a deposit by bank Transfer and the balance on arrival. All worked well and Tammy got back to me really quickly, with any questions I had. Will I return?...
Read moreBooked and paid in full 5 months in advance through booking, sea view rooms for 2 families, just to have our reservation canceled with no excuse 5 days before our planned arrival time. The cancelation announcement was made through Whatsup instead of the booking chat, as is procedure, with threats that if we rebook rooms that clearly with beeing last minute would be higher in price, she(Tammy, the owner) will not accept booking.com to have the extra costs imposed on her and will retain all from the room chargeshe made 5 months previous. When asked to be fully and fast reinbursed, as we had to rebook a clearly more expensive stay in a very short period, we were told this is not her problem and if we do not accept her cancelation terms free of charge, we can expect no reinbursment at all and are free to sue her. After several customer care calls and emails made to booking.com, proof of full bank payments made for both rooms months in advance, breach of protocol in her contacting us outside the booking platform aso, she asked for our bank details so she can pay us back...but took her sweet🙄 3 weeks time to do so, and has done so only after several more booking.com representatives interveened because she clearly overpassed their 7 to 10 payback period written on their site. We only booked because we wanted to be in walking distance to the small beach by Metropolis beach bar and Gorgona tavern., and turned out to be the worst idea ever as both cancelation and very rude, arrogant and with 0 acceptance of her lack of professionalism attitude, mrs. Tammy ruined our plans and trust in ever going below in hotel star ranking just for proximity reasons. I have been to Thassos before, in Ancantha Suites and Corina Hotel, and would recomend both for being what is promissed when booked, clean, welcoming and trustworthy, but never...
Read moreThis hotel is situated about 10 mins from Thassos town in a quite place called Skala Rochini.||||We had an amazing holiday here, a small family run hotel with 12 bedrooms and it's own little stretch of the beach.||||If you are looking for peace and quiet and a wee bit of romance, get booking :)||||We loved it here and can't wait to return.||||The hotel was lovely, food delicious and the staff incredibly helpful. Out room was spotless and nothing was ever any trouble for the staff. We booked half board and were given the option of having lunch or dinner so if we wanted to go out at night we could.||||We hired a car for a few days which let us visit many of the beautiful beaches and gorgeous little mountainside villages - my fav was sitting eating Walnut cake and ice-cream in Panagia - bliss.||||It was easy to get to the island - we drove to Manchester (don;t think there are flights from Scotland), the flight was almost 3 hrs 30 mins, plenty of taxi's at airport - it was only 16 euros to get to ferry at Keramotti. There was a ferry every hour which takes you to Thassos town on the island for about 3 euros each The owner of the hotel picked us up - simples :)||||Another thing I thought was great was that the rooms were air conditioned (no extra charge) and the sunbeds belong to the hotel - no charge. This made a nice change.||||I could go on an on about this hotel but in one sentance, we really felt like we found our wee bit of paradise.||||We will be returning next year and can;t wait to see Costa and his family again - they were absolutely lovely people who made sure our stay was special.||||Golden Sunset, Skala...
