The worst hotel we´ve ever been, what a disappointment, we left earlier than we had booked. Bad rip-off.||||None of the offers of this were available. Definitely no WIFI in the whole hotel (only in the over the odds restaurant "La Storia" that belongs to the hotels owner, 100m beside) because the owner had only paid for 1 single person at the same time, no possibility to rent bicycles or cars, absolutely no information at all about the place, no help to check anything. In fact the hotel is dark, gloomy and sinister the whole day, you will not find there anybody. The restaurant in the hotel is closed, they invite you in the restaurant "La Storia" in the harbour, very expensive and belongs to the hotel owner.||No free boat-trip to the shipwreck as they had promised. You have to beg a friend from the hotel owner for it . We then went to Theodosis Cruises in the harbour, and they did it perfect!||||The room? Spacious, but the worst matresses i´ve had in my life. If you take a shower, you will not flood only the bathroom but the hallway to. The water from the shower and the handbasin smells salty, it is hard to wash your hair with this or brush the teeth. Old and worn out wooden balcony doors and windows. ||||After we have heard about some violence from a hotel staff member against a local in the harbour and we met the police in the hotel, we overhasty departed and changed the hotel.||||Don´t wonder if you are disappointed and miss totally the well-known Greek hospitality. The La Grotta is Albanian, you will not find Greek people there. They don´t like people who stay more then 1 night and don´t eat in the "La Storia", because they fight a war against the local Greek family from the Porto (whose hospitality is legendary). ||||Well, we left earlier than we had planned and went to "Palataki" in the same harbour and then our holiday started...||||La Grotta is the worst hotel of 200 i have visited the last years and is an eyesore of Zakynthos, sorry for that. They want your money but as a guest you are a factor of...
Read moreWe decided to stay at this hotel for one night as we were leaving Zakynthos for Kefalonia by ferry in the morning. We visited Ag. Nicholaos a few days before to check it out and it seemed fine. A small place with a nice beach and 2 or 3 restaurants. Asked at the desk for availability and were told it would be 40 euros including breakfast and a free boat trip to the blue caves and the Shipwreck beach.||When we arrived we were given a room with a nice view and all the amenities of a two star hotel!!||Asking for the boat trip we were told by the same lady on the front desk that it will be 15 euros each as it is only free if you book the room through the internet!!!! After we objected and were referred to the owner sitting on the cash desk of the restaurant at the front it was agreed that it will be free.||Next morning we went to check out around 9 am, as the ferry leaves at 9.45, and were asked for 55 euros for the room. We pointed out we were told 40 and show the reception the Web site quoting 36 euros per night. She said that the owner was not in till 10.30 and that was the price she was told to ask.||As we wonted to get to the ferry and, frankly, I could not be asked to get involved in an argument over 20 euros, I place a 50 Euro note on the desk and walked out, never to return. I do not like people that try to cheat quest especially as the whole economy of the island depends on the tourist.||One redeeming fact, breakfast was nice and served by a waiter that...
Read moreMe and my fiancee stayed in LaGrotta 2 times (first august 2012, second May 2013), and every time we've been content. The price is very low, location simply great, whats more - if you stay in la Grotta, you have the trip to the famous Navaggio beach and Blue Caves for free! (Normally it's almost 30 euro). The staff is helpful and polite, breakfast is ok (would prefer non-sweet tastes, like egg, sausage, baked beens over toast with jam, though), rooms are simple, but ok. The refrigerator in the hallway, common for all the rooms seems weird, but it is safe, nothing ever got lost. ||||The village is beautiful, there is small beach (water is clear and swimming there is safe, it is not in the port itself) with greek restaurant (very good one, plus you can chose the fish you want grilled) and a few tavernas. Perfect as a base for people who travel around and don't seek big resorts and wild nightlife, but a quiet, simple place to eat and sleep.||||Definitely...
