Hotel Posada de Los Proceres — Hotel in Guatemala City

While preparing for my trip to Guatemala City to visit the little girl we are adopting, I read good reviews of the Posada de los Proceres, so decided to stay there. One of the staff picked me up at the airport,which was nice, but the moment we arrived at the posada, I knew I had made a mistake. My room had no hot water in the sink, and I had to run the shower several minutes to get hot water there. The pillows were just chunks of lumpy foam rubber, and there were tiny bugs in the bed, crawling over me all night. It was noisy all night with music playing, a blaring TV, and people talking. I did not feel safe. One review I read said there is a restaurant and air conditioning. There was no restaurant, and a pedestal fan must be their version of air conditioning. The continental breakfast consisted of toast, juice and instant coffee. I had planned to stay six nights, but I left the first morning. It was a bad experience...

I'm a member of a medical missionary group traveling to Guatemala on a yearly basis. Our group has been staying at La Posada de los Proceres for the last five years. We return to La Posada every year because of the courteous and friendly personnel. A big plus for us is the security. If you are not a guest, or a person having business with personnel of La Posada, you can't go in. One of most attractive features is the Posada's proximity to so many wonderful restaurants, shops, and even night clubs (walking distance.) The airport is a mere five to ten minutes away. Even though the location of La Posada de los Proceres is a very busy area in the Zona 10, the guests are assured of a nice, quiet and restful stay. The company I worked for in Guatemala made a reservation at the hotel, but upon my arrival (after a 22-hour flight) late in the evening on the 23th of july the receptionist told me there was no reservation in that name or number and I was forced to find another hotel.
