Hotel Helen — Hotel in Sololá

We had unfortunately booked 3 nights through Booking.com, but once we got there, climbing 5 flights of stairs, we knew it wasn't for us. The stairs, with no hand rail would be very dangerous if you slipped. Ultra basic and scuzzy room, a huge, but cracked, sliding glass door with an impressive view of Lake Atitan, liable to get very hot when the sun shines. And a broken back window which wouldn't close, great for thieves! We cancelled the booking and the management settled for 40% of the first day price. We found another hotel, much nicer and around...

This hotel is basic but does the job in a friendly setting with nice views.|There is noise from a nearby bar but it stopped at 11pm so wasn't a problem. Its location is a major plus point - close to the dock, the shuttle buses, an ATM and decent places to eat. |I arrived at night during a power cut (in the entire region) without a reservation and was looked after very well.|My only criticism is that I couldn't reach the tap to turn on the shower as it was way above my head so I had to stand on a chair to do it -...

Q175 a night for 2 people. ||Positives:|-Great view of lake atitlan |-hot water in shower|-24hr reception|-hammocks |-kitchen|-LOCATION!|-no mosquitos (because of spiders)||Negatives:|-dirty|-broken tiles and shower head|-spiders in all corners of the room, eggs/nests on ceiling. |-loud |-hard pillows and bed|-cash only|-HORRIBLE wifi (didn't work at all except in the reception room)|-immediately infront of the hotel is a dump/slum house with bottles and cans everywhere and stray dogs barking....
