While this is certainly one of the better places to stay in San Pedro (overall limited options, more of a lot of basic/hostel/backpacker type places), calling this a resort is a bit of a stretch. The photos online do it a bit more justice than it is, it feels smaller once there. However, given the options - it is one of the best choices if you want to be right in town/on the water. If you are looking for something more peaceful and are ok with being up the hill and a 20 min walk outside the main strip, check out Casa Lobo - I loved it there. Or, split your time between the two to mix it up.
The Good: -Good vibe around the pool area (music, views, mood) - one of the better places to spend the day -Good service around pool -Decent breakfast buffet -Great location and views -Good sized rooms with decent bed, fridge and TV -They can arrange a spot on a group shuttle for you to Antigua or Guatemala for 125 Qs that will grab you right at the hotel, easy peasy
Needs Improvement/Be Aware: -The rooms need a facelift. New paint on walls. The bathroom looks like it’s falling apart (the shower head was leaking and spraying water up all over the bathroom), the shower water handles were coming off, the tiling job looks old and decrepit, the sink/wood looked like it might fall down if leaning too hard on it. Cleanliness: the room, specifically the bathroom could have been more clean -It’s really loud. I had a pool suite room, and there is zero sound insulation. Anything taking place outside might as well have been in your room. You won’t go to sleep until around 1am when the town partying dies down on the weekend (that will be the case anywhere staying on the water in the town), and you’ll be up at 7am as soon as people are up and around the pool (including people that work there). People would also sit on the patio furniture right in front of your room and just talk as if it’s the middle of the day. I was very tired after 3 days here - bring ear plugs! The pool was cold (no big deal) but also really dirty. I didn’t go back in after the first day -More loungers and cushions for comfort. The first day there were only 3 loungers for the whole pool! The next day they brought several more plastic ones out but no cushions. Not super comfortable. But again, for San Pedro, at least they had loungers. -Internet was very spotty. It did not work half the time or was very slow (so TV in room did not always work either). I will say this is a problem overall in the area, just be aware if you think you will be...
Read moreMy recent stay at Sababa Resort in Lake Atitlan left much to be desired. While the resort had some potential, a series of issues, particularly in the realm of customer service and lost item handling, have left me with a lasting negative impression.||||Room Experience: I checked out of my room on September 13th, and the overall quality of my stay was, to put it lightly, average. Two notable drawbacks were the absence of air conditioning and the presence of exceptionally firm mattresses, which made for uncomfortable nights. However, it wasn't these issues that drove me to share this review.||||Lost Item Incident: Two days after my check-out, on September 15th, I realized I had inadvertently left a pair of clothing in my room. I promptly contacted the resort's front desk via WhatsApp around 12:47 PM, seeking professional assistance in retrieving my lost item. Unfortunately, the response I received was far from the level of service one would expect.||||Rather than offering assistance or reassurance, I was met with a disclaimer stating that the resort was not responsible for any lost items. This initial response felt accusatory and dismissive, leaving me feeling undervalued as a customer.||||In my determination to retrieve my lost item, I even offered to cover the shipping costs to the United States if their housekeeping staff found it. However, I received no response until I followed up at 7:12 PM on the same day. This delay in response and lack of empathy when dealing with a straightforward lost and found inquiry is a clear reflection of poor management and customer service.||||As a guest, I expected a certain level of care and professionalism, especially when addressing common issues like lost items. The resort's dismissive stance on lost and found items and their delayed response left me deeply disappointed and frustrated.||||Regrettably, my experience at Sababa Resort has been so unsatisfactory that I would not consider returning in the future. While the resort may have potential, it is imperative that management addresses these concerns promptly and improves their customer service and lost item handling procedures to provide a more positive experience for future guests.||||In summary, my stay at Sababa Resort was marred by poor customer service, a lack of responsiveness, and a dismissive attitude when handling lost items. I hope that this feedback serves as an opportunity for the resort to make necessary improvements and enhance the overall...
Read moreSafety Alert!!!
During my stay, I experienced a terrifying incident where someone attempted to enter my room at midnight. As a solo female traveler, the fear and vulnerability I felt were overwhelming. I shouted No! No! Go Away! No! until the person finally left. I quickly messaged the hotel WhatsApp. The person replied said that the room key was left outside of the door. Ok, and?? That doesn’t give anyone the excuse to try to come into my room at midnight! I FaceTime a friend for my security and stayed awake for the rest of the night. When I reported this to the hotel reception in the morning, the excuse given was that the intruder claimed the room was unoccupied, and this is why he tried to enter. I sleep with the lights on for safety so this excuse doesn’t make sense and is NOT acceptable. I had one more night left but I checked out. The disregard for guest safety is inexcusable.
Other watch outs: Don’t be tricked by outdated pics!!!
It’s like being lied to when meeting someone from online for the first time. This place is max 2 stars at best (and that is thanks to the lovely restaurant crew) but claiming 4 stars is delusional.
Everything here is falling apart and dirty. Don’t be fooled by what you see online from “influencers.” Spotted a few during my stay, and they are creating a false narrative by glorifying this place.
Lastly, the hotel makes you leave your ID the entire time during your stay vs. just making a copy. Why? 🤦♀️
This establishment, with its crumbling infrastructure and poor management, is far from deserving its claimed four-star status. Save yourself the distress and avoid staying here.
UPDATE: איך תדע שלא היית שם! איזה שקר לדבר על משהו שיש לך אפס ידע בו ולא מראה חמלה לאורחים המשלמים שלך!
How would you know, you weren’t there! What a lie to speak about something you have zero knowledge of and show no compassion for your...
