Gerður Apartments — Hotel in Reykjavik

Stayed in January 2023. My family stayed in the penthouse apartment, it has 2 bedrooms as I travelled with husband and adult son. The penthouse is on the 3rd floor and there is no lift but it is alright for us as we do not have any mobility issues. It has a flat screen TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime. There is a sofa and some lounge chairs, a round dining table, electric stove, oven, large fridge, microwave, bread toaster, electric kettle, cutlery, cookware, etc. The apartment is clean, the beds cozy, pillows are soft, spacious toilet, and bath. We love the soft lighting, and heating is more than adequate. We always feel toasty and warm and sleep throughout the night. We always look forward to coming back to the apartment after a long day of walking and tours. The location is unbeatable, Kronan Supermarket is just a few steps, Laugavegur and Laekjargata is less than 5 minutes. Less than 10 minutes to Hallgrimskirja Church and the Rainbow Street. Pick Bus Stop Numbers 2 or 3 for tours pickups and drop offs. I highly recommend this apartment due to its location, cleanliness, coziness, spacious. Access to the apartment is easy, communication with the management is easy and uncomplicated. We all love the soft lighting of the apartment. There is also a common laundry room downstairs which is very handy. Our only issue with laundry is, sometimes guests would run their laundry before going to bed and leave it there. There were many times we went down to the laundry in the morning around 7am, somebody else's laundry is still there inside the washer, and we have to return and check many times to see if it has been removed. Perfect, clean, cosy apartments super close to city central and great parking. Calm neighbourhood, close to a good grocery store. We debated if were should get a hotel or apartment, but given that we wanted to leave early in the mornings and would be out most of the day, making our own breakfast and packed lunches was perfect. Can't find anything bad to say about this place, which makes it a bit sad to see the other misguided reviews. We'll totally rebook when we come back.

It seems like some of the other reviews have mistaken what they were getting. It's an apartment/Airbnb, not a hotel, so expecting cleaning every day is just wrong. We loved the no-contact checkin. They send you a code for the doors and you're in. No waiting in line.

It's iceland - the warm water smells like eggs because it comes from geothermal energy. You'll notice the same smell at hot springs, and just when driving and walking around. It's not sewage or a problem with the apartment. (Google it!) The water is super clean, and the cold water does not smell and...

Absolutely disgusting apartments. Not worth a single cent! Very old apartments with old beds, shower , toilet, doors etc. wooden floor in the whole building make so much noise when people walking. Common laundry room which means you have to share the washing machine and dryer. Not mentioned on any of the booking sites. no reception at the property. (They don't even mention that there is no reception at the property). When you get there you have to call them to give you the code for the front and your apartment door. No house keeping. So your room is cleaned before your check-in that's it. through out your stay, no one comes to clean the room/bathroom, kitchen, lounge etc. or to collect the bin. The whole apartment has a horrible smell. Esp the bathroom. The water that comes out of the basin/shower has a really bad taste like it's coming from the sewer. Not so centrally located.
