Hotel Fron is a 4-star hotel with a 5-star staff. It's conveniently located for Reykjavik touring, and the breakfast offerings went well beyond the basic continental fare usually provided by similarly ranked hotels. Some reviewers have complained about the seating capacity of the breakfast area. It's actually in a separate restaurant accessed through a door across from the reception desk. The restaurant is closed to the public in the morning, allowing for a reasonable amount of guest seating with at least 2 hotel staff dedicated to breakfast concerns. Special recognition goes to the Hotel Fron's reception manager, Jalal Sadeqi. His empathy for the health, safety and satisfaction of all hotel guests defines the term 'Gold Standard.' During my 2-night pre-cruise stay I experienced a dental issue requiring immediate care. Locating an emergency dental clinic online, I went down to the lobby. At the reception desk, Jalal quickly secured a taxi for me. The clinic never opened and, after waiting there for over 2 hours, I made my way back to the hotel. Uncertain what to do, I stood in the lobby waiting for either an idea or divine intervention. Help came in the form of the hotel manager. Jalal asked me how the clinic went. Upon hearing about the negative outcome, his brow furrowed in thought. Then a quizzical smile. Jalal advised me he had a friend living in Reykjavik who was a dental surgeon. Jalal called his friend and arranged an emergency appointment for me. Within 3 hours I was whisked by taxi to the 2nd floor dental office of Reza Tabrizi at Arnula 23 108 Reykjavik and had the emergency dental surgery necessary to avoid an immediate return to the US. Dr. Tabrizi is a highly skilled dental surgeon with a calming demeanor. If performed back in the States, the procedure, including x-rays and medication, would have cost at least 3 or 4 times what I was charged. Upon returning to the hotel, I thanked Jalal profusely (and most likely to the point of embarrassment). The kindness and concern he showed for my well-being cannot be summarily dismissed with merely a "Thank you." Jalal Sadeqi is THE consummate hotel manager. So, if you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean hotel in Reykjavik offering an excellent breakfast and a hotel reception manager who has an affinity for the welfare of his hotel's guests, then look no further than the...

Read moreWe stayed here twice during our adventure in Iceland (booked through Nordic Visitor). It was our first stop when we arrived and our last stop before flying home. ||We arrived in the morning (around 9am) after a very long overnight flight from Canada. We were expecting to have to wait hours for our room, but the housekeeping team was able to get us into our rooms in about 15 minutes. It was amazing. ||Having a place to crash after a sleepless flight is such a wonderful feeling. On the first night we were on the 4th floor, and on the final night we were on the 2nd floor. Both rooms were clean and comfortable, though the 2nd floor rooms felt a little nicer, perhaps newer furnishings? We were here in June, so of course, it never got dark at night. I recommend you bring a sleep mask as the curtains don't really darken the room (not blackout) and you get a lot of light at the top and bottom. ||The hotel is right downtown on the main high street of Reykjavik. We stepped outside and were surrounded by shops, restaurants, and art galleries. About a 5 minute walk on that same street is a grocery store which we used to stock up on snacks and light fare to take with us on our journey (highly recommend doing this as eating at restaurants is VERY expensive by comparison). The main attractions are all easily in walking distance though DO BE CAREFUL on the sidewalks. There are loose tiles, semi-visible slopes, and random steps (sometimes painted, sometimes not) that we watched more than one tourist trip and turn an ankle on. ||We also had breakfast included in our stay, which is in the attached restaurant. A typical spread of cold meats, eggs, fresh breads, cheeses, any type of spread you could want, delicious skyr & yogurt, pickled fish, and tea/coffee. I appreciated that there were plenty of lactose free and dairy free options as well. We were well fueled for our adventures. ||The only thing we didn't like was the water. I know it's perfectly safe, but we were put off by the sulfurous smell. We used it for teeth brushing and such, but we didn't shower in it (another from our party did and they...
