We were there during Culture Night so we knew any place we went was going to be packed, and we settled on here. The line was out the door for ordering and we waited our turn. Once inside the very small restaurant it was very chaotic and hot. The main guy taking orders was super nice and ever giving people free candy bars. A younger gentleman came up to me with a tablet and asked my order, I told him what I wanted and he rang it up. I paid him and asked if I waited for the food or they bring it to you, he said there was an upstairs and we could sit up there. So off we went. Lots of time went by and people came and went with food. I saw the same guy come up to visit with friends and I stopped him and asked where our food was. He said he would check. He came back and said it would be a couple minutes. I’m almost positive he did not put our order in first thing but later after we wondered where our food was. All we got was fish and chips and a beef noodle soup, and the fish stew. When our food came, it looked good, but the fish looked like it was sold by weight not by piece, because one of the fried pieces was torn in half. I looked at other peoples orders and they all had the same thing. Sort of weird. My beef noodle soup was good and my husband said the fish stew was good. The fish and chips was great and I wish I would have just gotten that. The upstairs was less crowded but...
Read morePerfect little place to eat simple, freshly-cooked, quality "street" food at the bottom of the rainbow-colored main downtown street. My order was the basic fried cod I think, and fresh french-fried potatoes served with some fresh grated raw cabbage as a sort of small salad (which is standard and not listed on the menu). The food was perfectly hot, fried and delicious, and I indulged myself with a naughty, ice-cold sugar-laden Coke. By the way, I never once ate bad food in Iceland which is fitting since food is not cheap. Service was friendly, and I sat at one of two tables on the main floor by the street-facing window near the entrance, the kitchen and the register. I think I was the furst customer of the day. While staff was anxiously awaiting other customers, a huge group of tourists walked in single file and were directed to the upstairs dining room. It was a fun atmosphere and a respite from the cold, digit-stinging temperature. I listened in to the four British young people seated at the small table next to me and their food critiques. Two of the people loved the lobster stew. I tried to add a tip to my credit card but was told me not to bother since it goes straight to tax. ? Anyway, I offered a $5 tip in U.S. currency which was about a 33% tip, but the owner politely declined and said please just leave us a good review. I would definitely return...
Read moreGenerally it’s a shame that Yelp is not allowed in iceland as I usually don’t trust google or TripAdvisor reviews when it comes to food. I am surprised that iceland food ratings in general has such good ratings so we wanted to check out all the 4.5+ stars. Maybe our standards are higher as foodies who just had great food anywhere in the world especially in California.
Based on the owners recommendation we ordered: Lobster soup for $13 (size: 2 cups)
The taste was ok, very coconutty with 5 small pieces of shrimps, not lobster tail pieces as you’d have imagined. The soup is watery not creamy and overall taste was ok but nothing crazy. The fish and chips looked great but also greasy. What we liked was the service. Really sweet, we felt welcomed and they give you little treats and sweets. But food wise nothing special if you have had fish n chips before. If you had good lobster bisque before than this place will disappoint you.
We also tried their fish from the fish and chips. Nailed it at Jokusarlon was way better. We liked that it had a lot of fish and was thin in their crust but taste wise it was just ok. What we really like is the sweet lady. Great device, lovely person...
