A Wonderful Stay at Hotel Holt – Perfect for a Special Celebration! I recently spent five nights at Hotel Holt in Reykjavik while celebrating my engagement, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience. From start to finish, the service was exceptional, and the hotel made our stay truly unforgettable. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed, offering a cozy retreat after a day of exploring Reykjavik. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a blend of modern amenities and classic charm, making it the perfect base for our Icelandic adventure. Every morning, we enjoyed the delicious buffet breakfast, which had a wide variety of fresh options to start the day. The selection was plentiful, with a mix of hot and cold dishes, pastries, and Icelandic specialties – a great way to fuel up before heading out for sightseeing. What truly stood out was the incredible hospitality from the hotel staff. They were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our stay special. As a surprise, they even sent a bottle of Prosecco to our room to help us celebrate our engagement, which was such a thoughtful and generous gesture that made our time there even more memorable. Hotel Holt provided us with an unforgettable stay, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Reykjavik, whether for a special occasion or just to experience Iceland’s capital. Thank you to the amazing team for making our engagement trip so perfect – we’ll definitely be back!

This hotel was part of a package holiday, and was listed under the "luxury" category. There didn't seem to be many pictures of the rooms online, but the reviews seemed good enough so we gave it a go. But unfortunately there isn't many good things to say about it, from our stay at this hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel is in a good location (5 minutes walk from the town, etc), but the rooms are tiny and old fashioned. Could do with a makeover, and modernising a bit. No fridge in the room and the TV was too small to do anything with. Even the extractor fan in the bathroom wasn't working, and could see mould starting to appear on the ceiling. Luckily our package holiday included a lot of days out/trips, so none of this was a huge problem for us, but expected a lot more. Breakfast (if you can call it that) was included from 7 to 10am. We went twice, then decided to eat elsewhere after that. The first morning there was scrambled egg, sausages, and beans (all lukewarm) with a couple of pastries and a few other odd little bits. Not much at all. On the second morning there was scrambled egg, mushroom, and bacon (again all lukewarm), with the same pastries and other little bits. We knew it was going to be a buffet style breakfast, but was expecting more options at least. If you choose to stay here, I would save your money and get breakfast elsewhere.

Nestled in a serene location, slightly removed from the bustling city center, is a charming and antiquated hotel adorned with a remarkable collection of artwork. This hidden gem provides a tranquil retreat for those seeking a peaceful stay in Reykjavík. Just a short distance from the hotel, a few hundred meters away, stands the iconic Hallgrimskirkja. We planned to visit this magnificent church later in the evening, when the crowd dwindles and the view becomes unobstructed. Our delightful hotel experience included a scrumptious breakfast served on the ground floor (first floor). The selection of food was outstanding, meticulously prepared, and served in a cozy dining area adorned with captivating paintings. Overall, our stay at this hotel exceeded our expectations, and we express our gratitude to the warm and accommodating staff who made our time there truly enjoyable.

Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price

Our stay at the Holt Art Hotel in Reykjavík was unfortunately the biggest disappointment of our 10-day trip through Iceland.

First of all, the location shown on Google Maps is misleading. While it appears to be right in the city center, the hotel is actually located about 600 meters away from that spot — definitely not as central as expected.

We stayed in a Junior Suite, which was overpriced for what it offered. The bathroom was the smallest we’ve ever had in any hotel, and there was an additional unheated room with a bathtub that felt cold and uninviting. The suite itself was very run-down: dirty carpet, old windows, outdated furnishings, and poor soundproofing. You could hear everything — including the loud elevator door. Avoid rooms near the elevator if you value your sleep.

Despite our disappointment, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was acceptable, though nothing special. The hotel interior felt dark, old, and a bit musty — quite the opposite of the warm and stylish atmosphere the online photos suggest.

We also found it unreasonable that a late check-out (just one extra hour) wasn’t possible, despite the high price we paid. Overall, the hotel might have been passable if it had been priced fairly — but for the rate we paid, it was absolutely not worth it. We were especially surprised by the number of positive reviews, which we honestly cannot understand based on our experience.

Sadly, this was by far the worst accommodation of our...

Just returned home from my Iceland trip, oh so memorable!! My stay at the hotel added to the experience in many ways. One it is really close to downtown Reykjavik, like it's just 7 mins from the Rainbow street and the walk is really serene to and from the hotel. Such a perfect location! 2nd - the decor of the hotel is really enigmatic. I was in awe looking at how the paintings and lights were arranged in the lobby, not overdone, just enough. It was like being transported to another era. The downside however, was the guy who checked me in when I arrived, he wasn't rude or anything, but not as interested either. I asked if there were any restaurants open on Christmas and he said, "They are all either fully booked or closed". So, what? Do I go hungry for the next few days? I decided to explore the city and found few good restos open with great food. The next day, I had a bit of a mishap on the slippery bathtub and the female receptionist was the exact opposite of this guy - incredibly kind and hospitable, she asked if I was ok! :) And also didn't charge me extra for the broken shower clips. Lovely person!! Yet, I wish the rooms were bigger. It seemed a bit crammed for one person, hmm...that seems to be the case with most European hotels. I enjoyed my early morning walks around the hotel as there was literally none on the streets, just beautiful snow and the quaint town. Overall not a...
