Chilling with the Turtles
Whenever Goa is mentioned, most people’s mind imagines the hippie land of night parties and beaches swarming with people, especially in the North Goa area. But in Agonda beach on the other hand it is an entirely different story. Being one of the least crowded beaches in Goa, it has also been referred to as the silent beach. The azure blue waters of this sleepy fishing village with shining white sands is also one of the rare nesting sites of the famous Olive Ridley turtles. And we were lucky enough to score a rustic thatched-roof Beach Cottage, right nearby. The cottage was a tasteful blend of the typical aesthetic of a Goan shack and a mild touch of luxury. The lulling sound of the frothy ocean, A sandy shore lined with balmy coconut trees, and a panorama of the cool blue sea - the perfect place to s
LOCATION: Excellent location right on the Beachfront, and quick walk away from all the chilled out Beach shacks on the other side of Agonda beach. We were so close to the beach, we could almost feel the sand in our feet even in side the room - literally!
DINE + DRINK: They dont have a restaurant on site, but the staff can arrange for a delicious cheap local meal for dinner. But breakfast is made in house and absolutely worth waking up for. The Parathas were divine and the Pressed Coffee and Fresh juices were gourmet!
ROOM: We stayed in Cottage 4, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Lovely view of Agonda Beach; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: This was the biggest letdown of the room. They have a super weak Cooler that could barely cool even one corner of the room. And the burning sun was just working against it tremendously. The compressor of the Fridge also got busted because of Low volteate.. So overall it was like a Sauna with no access to Cool drinks!; BED: Comfortable be; BATHROOM: Probably THe highlight of the room. A lovely Balinese outdoor Bathroom, where you can enjoy a cool shower while treating yourself to the sights and sounds of nature; TOILETRIES: Random cosmetics, bring your own!
FACILITIES: No Gym or Pool - just pure Goan Chill!
SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to TARUN who took care of all our special needs with a smile. Also Rupesh at the front office who replaced things that were not functional in the room with fresh ones.
HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: No TV in the room and the Internet barely works in the room. So you are at the mercy of the 4G mobile...
Read moreWe've been to goa many times like so many of the Indian tourists in search of that perfect beach vacation. So far, our idea of a perfect vacation in Goa was a luxurious resort as close to the sea+beach as possible - most burning a HUGE hole in the pocket.
This time, we decided to explore the still relatively less used beach cottages. Extensive search on the net and tripadvisor repeatedly got me to the Agonda Villas website and the reviews promised a good time. They have 6 properties in the vicinity and we opted for Agonda Villas due to its beach cottages and the jaccuzi.
Despite the reviews, I had kept my expectations low. And boy was I in for a huge surprise.
The approach to the cottages makes you feel about why you came here but the moment you reach your cottage, you've already got your money's worth. I didn't know that such a cottage, on the beach, yes on it, not a 'few min' away or with a road in between, existed! We had booked the grand cottages which had a HUGE room, an even bigger washroom and a spacious patio that had a big jacuzzi.
The rooms were clean and also had AC, mini-fridge, coffee, tea, kettle, closets, work bench etc - one can easily do a workation here if one wants to.
They only serve breakfast which has limited options. But they are well made. There are several restaurants along the beach. These are WAY better than the beach shacks you find in most places in goa in terms of quality and ambience. The pricing is tad higher but you get much better quality.
The service is just brilliant. Rupesh, the onsite manager, is ready to run and meet all your requirements. He is ably supported by Tarun/Shiva and his staff.
A few things to be prepared for. The ACs are quite inadequate and there is only one fan where there should have been 2-3. So be prepared for some heat especially since there is excessive voltage fluctuation. Since it's on the beach, expect some sand to always creep into your room despite cleaning. The beach is slightly rougher than many others and due to the proximity to it, there is a lot of noise from the waves. We loved it but not all may.
Overall, one can get brilliant luxury and an amazing experience without burning a hole. I don't think we'll ever end up going to 5 star...
Read moreWe are a family with 2 kids, 4.5months and 2.5years at the time of the trip. Agonda villas was our second stop on a 3 week trip and we spent a week here. We were apprehensive as it didn’t have a restaurant but it made up for it in the villa and there were plenty of places to eat at or get takeaway very close by. The hut we were allocated as absolutely perfect for us as it only had a couple of steps down to the beach, all the huts have their own sun loungers and an umbrella so there was a nice little spot of shade for our toddler to play in the sand while we could sit on our veranda with a beer. The huts are all slightly staggered so don’t feel too close together.
The villa was plenty big enough for 2 cots and also had a sofa and day bed. Plenty of space for unpacking clothes. The breakfast was served at a time of your choice and was continental type breakfast with a choice of eggs, cereal, fresh fruit pancakes etc. It was perfectly nice and we never bothered venturing out to find something else, though there are lots of options if you choose not to include breakfast in your room rate.
We were provided with refill bottles with filtered water which they refilled whenever we needed, this was great to see somewhere helping to reduce the plastic use!!
Agonda beach is a beautiful wide beach with roaming dog and cows. The dogs never bothered us and seemed as chilled out as the cows. The sea in agonda was sometimes a bit rough to let our children play in it without holding hands but we had lots of fun jumping over the waves and building sandcastles to watch them being washed away.
Everyone working at Agonda Villas was really kind, helpful and especially nice to our son! Thank you very much for your hospitality we loved our stay and would definitely choose it again if we come back to...
