During my recent visit to Shillong, I opted to stay at this heritage property. I checked in at 4 pm and the process was smooth. We were booked in a Delux Room in the Forest Wing of the hotel. Let us now move to the review of facilities and my experience ( Rating have been assigned in a Scale of 1 to 5 , 5 being highest):- A. Location : Located on Tripra Castle Road in Clive Coloney area, the property is located about 2 km from city centre. Originally built in 1920 by Maharaja of Tripura converted into a heritage hotel and sprawling over an area of 9 acres, the hotel is separated into three wings : Heritage Wing with 10 rooms, Valley View wing with 19 rooms and Forest View Wing with 6 rooms and 3 cottages. Each wing has it's own charm but having seen all I found Forest Wing being the best. The hotel has buggy service for free transportation for the guests between each wing. Only drawback of the hotel to teach the main road you have to walk each time on a steep road for about 20 minutes. Quite a challenge for the elderly guests and those having knee problem. For this hotel provides buggy but at a cost. HOTEL MUST PROVIDE FREE BUGGY SERVICE EVERY 1 HOUR AT FIXED TIME SO THAT THD GUESTS CAN BE MOBILE. Thus is the practice Internationally in all such properties located away from the main road. For this inconvenience, I had to lower the rating.(Rating 3.75). B. Room :  My Delux category room no. 107 was located on ground floor of the Forest Wing . With 320 square feet area, size of the room was big. The elegant  room have large glass window opening on the lush green forest. The room had 1 medium sized bed, a writing desk, two single sofas with coffee table , a wardrobe . Bed was quiet small for double occupancy but rightly soft, comfy with good linens and choice of pillow with different firmness. The room with wooden flooring have luxury written all over, very clean and have  amenities like refrigerator tea/coffee making facility, large wall mounted LED TV and hairdryer(on demand) . 4 bottles of water are provided and tea and coffee pouches replaced every day. Toilet was big and modern with seperate shower enclosureand good sanitary fitings. Toileteries like shampoo, bath gel , shaving kit, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, slippers and body lotion were provided. Quality of toileteries are good . Room does not have air conditioning. Seperate room heater was provided, which was extremely noisy and NEEDS IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT(Rating 4.5) C. Facilities : The hotel has most of the  facilities that you expect in a property in this category . Being well spread out in different wings, there is no lobby as such. There are small sitting area in all the 3 wings and also outside sitting arrangements in gardens all around. The property also have a billiard room and travel desk. (Rating 4.75) D. Dining options: The hotel has fairly good dining options. The Heritage Wing Bar provides good choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.The Heritage Wing Restaurant provides guests with choice of Indian and Chinese cuisine . The Valley View Wing Resto Cafe provides continental and Indian cuisine with snacks and serves drinks. The Mandalay in forest wing provides buffet breakfast which is served between 7 to 10 in the morning and also serves Oriental Cuisine during lunch and dinner hours. Buffet is quiet elaborate with good choice of Western and Indian styled spread. Good selection of in room dining facilities are available for lazy guests.(Rating 4.5). E. Overall service : The hotel has very well behaved team of staff at the reception and also at its housekeeping. Warning. If you want a relaxing vacation dont book here. Such a nightmere of a hotel. Other postive reviews must be paid fake review! Where to start? Ok I'll be nice and start with a positive note. Rooms were clean, environment was nice. Breakfast was good.

Ok ready for the bad notes. Check in and check out took over one hour when there was no one else was waiting. On the first entering into the room, it reeked of alcohol! For four days of stay the phones and wifi doesn't work and no repair was done what so ever even with daily reminder for the staff. On the last night of our stay downstairs guest stayed up and partied past midnight causing so much disturbupency and we couldn't sleep. We called the staff 4 times asking to do something. Even informing them we need to call the police. Staffs asked us not to call police and said they would take care of it. After that noise continues. Unpon checkout the CEO gave us such a horrible attitude pushing responsibility on the hotel structure being an old building, pushing responsibilities on to other guest as their staff couldn't do any other things to solve the matter further. Appearently the other guests complaint before me and CEO said they were being more beurocratic. Does that mean they bribed her!?!) So I guess we werent as much of their guest compare to the people who made the noice and complained first. I'm shocked the way the management treated us. I did ask the CEO for a discount and she acted as if was crazy to ask them that and behaved wired. We are guests that are about to check out and supposedly our bad experiences are not her problems anymore. I really don't think she (CEO) is capable of this job as no wonder the whole management is a mess !

To order room service- room phone was broken so we used our mobile phone to call phone desk. They said they will send a person to take the order. I ask couldn't you just take my order over the phone now?!

For the first two days when we left the hotel in the morning staff asks us to to let them keep our room keys so they can clean our rooms. When we came back it took over half an hour to get back into our rooms as they were sending us back and forth as they not sure where the keys are. On the last the we decide to keep our keys and no need to have our rooms cleans and yet still upon our return the rooms was cleaned. Appearently they didn't needed our...

The Heritage Club - Tripura Castle has one of the best accommodation in Shillong. Located on the hill having good view of city, surrounded by pine forrest.

We were especially very happy with the courteous staff and the clean/vast Queen room. We were impressed with the house keeping staff is very particular and they know their work very well.

They have three wings. Valley View: Balcony having a view of city from the top of the hill with few pines around. Forrest View:View of the greenery on the hill Heritage wing: close to the Castle of King of Tripura - gives a feel of a heritage property. They have electric buggy to go across the wings/restaurants.

The Queen's room - which is really large room with a balcony facing the city in the valley. Pretty much next to one of the restaurants. Has big glass wall which brings in good amount of natural light inside.

Food: Breakfast - is good. basic continental + several Indian dishes. Restaurant - Food is really good. They have a good taste of north Indian food. Mr.Liba at the restaurant arranged a special vegetarian version of Nei-Iong for us, which was very delicious. King of Tripura seem to have a great collection of sports/music memorabilia.

Wi-Fi - could be better.

Basic amenities are provided - Heater, electric Kettle with a good collection of tea etc.
