Illam Hotel — Hotel in Zone 9 Teynampet

As it was in convenient location for my purpose, I stayed at Illam hotel for 5 nights.

First impression I got was a little uncomfortable as the gentleman at the reception was not that smiley/friendly. I didn’t feel I was welcome then. When I walked in to the room, there was no fridge, tea&coffee, water, amenities etc. but they were all brought in by hotel staff within 20min or so. Room was clean, bed was comfortable and hot water was there too although it got less hot after sometime (long enough while I was having shower). Wifi was supposed to be there but I could hardly connect to it, so I used my data most of the time.

On the first morning, I was expecting to start the breakfast (included in the room rate) at 8am as I was told it would start by then, but there was no one around and I had to ask the security man to see whom I can ask. I think the man at the reception came late on that day… Anyhow I manage to get some dosai & egg on that day on time. This incident was a little annoying as I had to go to work in a hurry after that. I talked to the hotel manager & staff, and in the following days I could get toasts/butter/jam & egg on time (it would have been good if there’s a bit of fruits as well). According to the manager, it used to be buffet breakfast but they don’t have enough guests to do it, so now it’s prepared individually.

Location wise, it’s close to some consulates so I felt quite safe to walk around, at the same time there’s not so many restaurants nearby….but you can manage with deliveries. There’s also one restaurant attached to the hotel.

With the rate I paid, I think my stay was comfortable enough. Will I stay...

I stayed at this property during August 17-20, when I went to Apollo Cancer Centre for treatment of my Father in law. This hotel is very suitable for those who come to this hospital for treatment. It is just around 200 meter away from Apollo Cancer Centre. The room was very nice and bathroom was clean. One restaurant named 'Double Roti' is attached to the hotel. Mainly fast food is available in this restaurant and this is not suitable for lunch or dinner. However, there are some restaurant nearby. There was a very big lift in the hotel and it could accommodate even car. However, I don't like one thing of the hotel. That is the unprofessional attitude. Just one day before check in, I visited the hotel for booking. The manager showed me two types of room viz. Room with one Double bed and Room with two single bed. I clearly told them that we need the room with one double bed. However next day when we checked in, the hotel failed to provide us the preferred room. They didn't keep the room for us. That is the reason, I am not rating 5 star. Overall, the hotel was OK and is considered as a suitable accommodation for treatment at Apollo...

Worst service staff. They dont bother any complaints in room . Half of the rooms hot water heater is spoiled, staff doesent arrange any alternative source for got water. Bathrooms dont have buckets and they dont even provide one. After my 20 min discussion with staff they gave bucket which staff uses in their room and that bucket isnt cleaned for 2 years🤮. Wifi is not working, whenever i asked for wifi more than 10 times in my 4 days stay they didnt respond . When I ask for floor mat in room they didn't respond, after my second time asking they told we don't give floor mat in rooms. If we ask for water bottle they didn't bring ,after 30 min i went down and brought it. Lift stopped working from long long ago, they dont have amy ideas for repairing any spoiled item in hotel. There is no soapcase in bathroom, we dont know where to keep soap while bathing.The owner just invested money and left hotel without proper maintenance . Worst ever stay.
