Had not been to an exclusive Thai Restaurant in quite a while, so thought we would head to Absolute Thai on Cenotaph Road. It is a nice quaint place, not enough parking, but the valet takes care of it and are pretty courteous and nice. So as we enter, there is a whiff of lemon grass, and that is a really good sign :). For some reason, lemon grass gives you a fresh feel and also builds up an appetite. For starters we had Tom Yum soup, which was very flavourful and good quantity too (a 1/2 will actually serve 3 people). For starters we ordered the Tohu (Tofu) Tempura and a Corn Tart with glazed honey and basil leaves (forget the name), they were both really lovely. A portion is more than substantial to serve 3 people. After the starters and soup, we were pretty full, and we knew we had to go easy on the main course, so we ordered a garlic fried rice and thai red curry. The quantity again, is pretty good. Though the main course was pretty decent, we thought that they could have been more flavourful. I personally prefer the Thai Red Curry at Nasi & Mee, which is really flavourful. Even the burnt garlic fried rice is much more flavourful there. We had no space for dessert. Oh, I almost forgot, they give you a nice shot glass drink at the beginning on the house which is pretty refreshing, and like most other Thai restaurants, they serve those Thai Paan platter (as I like to call it), where they serve you nice green leaves that look like palak, and to go with it, peanuts, dry coconut, finely chopped onion, lemon, ginger, chillies and a sweet sauce made from i am guessing jaggery and coconut. I just love this, and wiped the serving clean :). Overall, a very satisfying dinner experience, and yes there is room for improvement. The service...
Read moreWell I have had thai food in many places and wanted to try absolute thai for a very long time. Looking at the rating I had high expectations about this place. As I entered the restaurant, there was this fragrance which was so powerful and felt a bit uncomfortable in the beginning. As time passed it was kinda okay. The interiors are so good and gives you this Thai feel.
They gave a complimentary welcome drink as well as a thai palette cleansing plate with beetle leaves.
Coming to the food, I ordered:
Absolute Thai Combo: Price 985 This platter contains 4 varieties of staters namely-
Tung Tong Je- Golden royal money bags: This was my favorite. It was crispy on the top and soft at the bottom. Filled with veggies. It was light and filled with flavor.
Prawn Tempura: Another amazing starter. So well cooked and tasted amazing with the dip provided.
Tod Mun Pla- Thai fish cakes: Very disappointed with this dish. Personally I didn't like it that much but my friend loved it. So its definitely upto your taste.
Chicken Spring Roll: The spring rolls were good and yumm.
Tom Yum Soup- Gai: Price 285 Classical Thai soup with chicken. Somehow the flavor wasn't according to my liking but, if you love spicy tangy soup then you might just love this.
Pla Rad Prik: Price 895 Deep fried fish with chill sauce. Thin strips of fish deep fried and served on the fish itself. This dish was okayish.
Costed around 2300 for all of the above...

Prawn tom Kha
A creamy soup which is quintessentially thai through and through. Made with entirely coconut milk, this soup leaves you wanting for more and the mildly flavoured prawns and the rice noodles ensure you have a bit of a variation in the taste rather than the coconut overpowering the dish. Reasonably priced considering it has seafood.
XO Chicken Dimsum
XO sauce is a very spicy sauce made using seafood and chillies and is common in China and HongKong. In this dish traditional chicken dimsums are generously tossed with the XO sauce such that every bite makes you sweat and yet keeps you coming back for more. Spicy and absolutely delicious though bit heavy on the pocket for what it is.
Mango with sticky Rice
Having not had any rice for the entire meal, decided to go for a different kind of dessert which is rice cooked in condensed milk and has a thick consistency and is chewy. This is served with a thin slices of mango which complements the sweetness and has it's own tanginess too. A heavy dish which is really expensive but worth it if you are on the lookout for something different. The dish still makes me wonder if I liked it or not, so there's all you need to...
