Santigi Homestay — Hotel in Gili Air

We just turned up to Gili Air and walked in to Santigi, to see if they had a room available. We originally booked for two nights, but extended to three.||The owner and all the other staff are friendly and nice, and they really try to hard to make sure you have a good stay. The owner greeted us by name each time he saw us! ||Our room was spacious and clean, and was one of the large ones which had a mini Kitchenette. It had air con and a mosquito net, but we didn't find we needed the mosquito net. Towels are provided too, as well as a drying rack on the porch for your swimwear.||The wifi was fast and reliable which is unusual for the island, and breakfast was the usual fare, served outside your room, which we liked. I recommend the fruit juices - the freshly squeezed pineapple juice was great! ||You can walk here from the port in about 15 minutes, and to the beach in about 10 minutes. You can also book snorkelling trips through the home stay if you want.||The only negative to our stay was on our first evening we had three large cockroaches appear in the bathroom. However when we informed the owner he was very apologetic and came and killed them, and provided us with a can of spray in case any more appeared, which they didn't.||This is a basic, clean home stay -decor is basic and a bit dated in the bathroom, but the room and linens are clean. The place itself was nice and also the staff. The room is big, has everything you need.. even a small kitchen, fridge and utensils in the room for those wanting to cook.||Location is fine.. not too far from harbour and beach. Breakfast was as usual... pancake and juice.||The only problem we had was that our air-conditioner was just blowing air. It wasn't cooling the room, we spoke to the owner and after checking he said that it happened because electricity went down on that day, and that they were going to fix it in 3 day. Asked if I can change the room and he said that all the rooms had the same problem.||Strange since the other people I saw had the air con on and no one said anything, and besides that, every room has its own external unit so it's quite weird that all the air conditioner units broke down.||Anyway since the room was exposed to the sun during the afternoon it got extremely hot and we could barely sleep (we got a fan from the owner and also a discount for this). My partner and I were already in holiday in Bali when we heard about the Gili Islands. After a bit of research, we decided to visit Gili Air for a couple of days to sample some raw beauty. We booked into Santigi Homestay and were immediately struck by the friendly nature of the staff. ||We paid in cash on arrival (they prefer that) and I accidentally paid far too much. However, a few minutes after cash had changed hands, the staff member knocked on our door and gave me the extra cash back (I would not have realised had he not done that).
