Pondok Backpacker City Square — Hotel in Malang

We came in the middle of the night to this hostel. Our host Stefanos (literally the nicest person on the earth 🤣) waited for us the whole night at the desk. He prepared our beds and we could go to sleep right away. We put 2 mattrasses on top of each other since we thought they were a little bit thin, but we slept amazing. In the morning he took all kind of things for us to eat, and drink.

When we went to see Malang, he even washed some of our clothes (which we asked him) and hung them to dry.

He was so friendly and wanted us to feel really comfortable. Also the bathrooms/toilets were really clean. Also there is warm water and a washing machine to clean your clothing.

The hostel is really close to the train station, and to the center of Malang, which made things easy for us.

The hostel itself is pretty decent for the price. However, they lock the front door to the hostel at night and don't properly inform guests about this. While this was frustrating for us as we nearly missed our 5am tour (luckily the driver waited), it could be very dangerous in the case of a medical emergency, fire, etc. One of the staff does sleep in the building however, none of this was communicated to us at the start. I have been to so many hostels in the world but this was the best only cuz of Stefanos the guy working here. He is so nice and helps you around with everything. I would definitely recommend this hostel in terms of cozy stay, WiFi, cleanliness.
