Gelatik Bed and Breakfast — Hotel in Pulau Bali

My friend and I have been travelling Bali for 2 weeks, we thought we’d stay here for our last 2 nights as it had good reviews. Unfortunately, after our first night we both woke up with bites & were really itchy.

Initially, we thought it could be a jellyfish sting as we went snorkelling on the day after our first night but the next day we woke up WORSE! We also went snorkelling with a third friend who stayed elsewhere and had no bites.

We saw a doctor today (19/04/23) after we checked out, who confirmed it was bed bug bites & gave us some cream and a tablet. We had left our bags at the property as we weren’t going to the airport until 8pm.

When we went to retrieve our bags, we told the owner about the issue we were having and explained the story to her & what the doctor said & she basically blamed us for getting them today! Even though I showed her photos & text messages time stamped during our stay of the bites. (Photos also show the room) I even had a photo from 3am on our first night when I messaged my boyfriend to tell him I couldn’t sleep because I was so itchy and showed him the bites.

Owner will most likely deny, but we took a recording of her blaming us & we have evidence in photos and videos of our bites!! BE WARY!!! She wouldn’t even tell the people who checked into our room after us, we tried to knock on the door to tell them but no one was there. If you are reading this and staying in room 305 BEWARE!!!!!!!!

Edit: I hope you can see for yourselves how unprofessional her response is to a REAL issue. Never blamed her place because it could have been previous person that stayed in the room that brought it from elsewhere: but to outright DENY it after she saw for herself! Crazy. Save yourself and book one of the other affordable bed and breakfast in the area :) this should be called...

I stayed at Gelatik in early December.

Upon entry, the staff were extremely welcoming and enthusiastic to see me. I felt right at home! I was checking in and set up with no issues, and settled into my room within a couple minutes. The owner, Kevin, came out to greet me and make sure I was settled in. He even came out to party with us one night!

The breakfast was great, with the staff making eggs and having several other breakfast items (fruit, pastries, etc.) available. There's a nice view from the 3rd floor.

The hostel itself is in great condition. My private room felt more like a hotel, extremely comfortable with amenities like AC, and plenty of space. Mopeds are available for rent.

The location is within walking distance (or very short Grab ride) to the Semanyak beach and to the local beach clubs (try Potato Head Beach Club). Plenty of choices for food and easy access to the main road. Overall Semanyak is central and great place to operate from if you are in Bali for a while.
