Boutique oasis steps away from the beach
Loved our stay. In the hustle and bustle that canggu has become, Masmara is a pleasant refuge. Beautiful grounds, very friendly staff that made us feel like family, and well thought out interior design.
I think a lot other hotels forget they are in the tropics and design what might be more appropriate for northern europe. The marble flooring and reclaimed wood combination in our room did wonders for keeping things cool. We rarely used the a/c, but when we did it pretty quickly created a microclimate for those who are keen on sleeping under the doona.
The pool was comfortable and clean. Big enough to feel you have privacy, small enough to have a chat with fellow guests if you are up for it.
Location wise you are a short walk from one of the premier surfing beaches of not only bali but the world. A right at the river mouth and a left at echo beach. If it gets too big, its great to watch some of the more talented locals and tourists take it on. That's if you choose to walk left, which also offers plenty of bars and a beach club in the form of La Brisa. If you walk right instead to Pantai Lima, you'll feel like you stepped back 10 years - local beach warungs and if the winds are up, I do recommend watching the local kids play with the kites. Super chilled.
Once the sun is the down you can walk up the other way to many other small shops, cafes and restaurants serving local and international cuisine. Otherwise you are 2mins from batu bolong, and another 5mins down to berawa if you want to check out there.
Thoughtful touches beyond the aesthetic appeal: Big wardrobes were you can actually unpack Two curtains, privacy and night time block outs Nicely stocked mini bar, we enjoyed the red wine Board storage Ample vanity space in the bathroom Plenty of power sockets Strong wifi
The restaurant out front 'KIlo' was also quite the vibe, but I'll do a separate review for that.
Once again, super happy with the stay and would recommend to couples for the deluxe room or families for the multi bedroom offering which I heard also has a kitchen.
Cheers Masmara team, see you in...

Read moreWe stayed in the 2 bed apartment which was absolutely perfect. Loved the internal space and the balcony was huge. The apartment was cleaned daily, and very well. Beds were big and super comfy. Staff are delightful and always going above and beyond to assist. The bathroom is fully stocked with lovely shampoo and soap etc. Hairdryer is a tiny one that barely blows out a candle; ok for fine hair but when you've got thick long hair the result isn't pretty :)|We arrived very late and staff were still up waiting for us and took our luggage to our room. Most importantly they were still smiling at 3am when we arrived!|Breakfast is eaten in Kilo restaurant at the front of the resort. While the food is terrific it isn't kid friendly. Pancakes with basil custard really doesn't hit the mark for a 7 year old. After 2 days you really need some lighter options such as toast / croissant or cereal. Kilo is amazing for your evening meal. The roast chicken was definitely the winner for us, closely following by the prawn pasta and ribs. Again not kid friendly however....... for our second night at Kilo I asked the kitchen for chicken and vegetables for Miss 7yo. Perfect! And she ate it all. There are so many restaurants in Canggu that now have a basic kids menu so it would be great to see it happen here too.|The pool isn't huge but it was totally fine for us. Love the fact that there is a super shallow area for toddlers or general kids play. |For those heading to Masmara anytime soon my only negative comment would be to check regarding construction and earthworks that are just commencing at the adjacent property. Not the fault of Masmara but if you are expecting to spend endless days by the pool or in your room the excavation might impede that.|Overall a lovely quiet hotel and wonderful staff. Would definitely return. Thank you to...
