I usually don’t leave negative reviews, but this stay was really frustrating. I was assigned a top bunk bed in a room on the 3rd floor. When I arrived, I found THAT THE CURTAIN FOR MY BUNK HAD FALLEN OFF, so I couldn’t change clothes in privacy. On top of that, the safe didn’t open even after trying default codes like 0000 and 1234. I went down from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor to report the issues. I ASKED FOR A ROOM CHANGE, but the staff insisted on fixing it instead and said they would call housekeeping. The housekeeper CAME, STUCK THE CURTAIN SXREW LOOSELY BACK INTO THE CEILING HOLE, AND SAID "DONE". I pointed it out and asked, “Do you think this is done?” Only then did he say he’d reinstall it properly. When I asked about the safe, he said he’d come back later. Later he returned with a master key to reset the safe, but HE LAUD DOWN AT THE EDGE OF MY BUNK BED while doing it. He told me to set a new password but KEPT STARING AT ME AS I ENTERED THE CODE. I had to tell him directly: “Why are you keep looking at me put in my password?” He awkwardly left right after that, and then the safe battery immediately died. Again, I had to go down from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor to report the issue. They said they would come, but I reminded them I had already been waiting for a long time and needed to leave. Instead of apologizing, THEY ASKED IF IT WAS REALLY RRGENT. After coming back from outside, I asked if everything was fixed. They said yes. I also asked where I could get a towel, and the staff said they would double-check and bring it to me. But when I entered the room, I realized my bunk was covered in dust from the curtain repair. The safe still didn’t work. Again, I had to go downstairs, and staff even asked me if I had forgotten my password. I explained again that it never worked in the first place. By this point, I was really angry and told them I had been asking since 3 PM. They once again asked if I need to use. Finally, I told them I would just check out. Only then did a female staff member apologize and offer to change my room. BUT I ALREADY ASKED FOR A ROOM CHANGE WHEN I CHECKED IN and I already made new reservations for other hotel. I had already decided to leave. She apologized for the first time and helped me to check out, but I realized i have never gotten the towel when I check out the room.
Overall, I wasted hours repeating the same requests, walking up and down from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor multiple times, and dealing with careless service. The attitude was dismissive, and the basic issues (privacy curtain, safe, even towels) were never properly handled. I ended up leaving early because it was simply too...
Read moreThis review is based on me staying in a private room, not the dorms.
Just checked out from Roomates Canggu and I went here not expecting much but I was blown away by the service I received here.
Arriving late at night (1am), I was promptly checked in, I didn’t realise the deposit needed to be paid in cash and made the mistake of not going to the ATM at the airport. The receptionist was very kind and allowed me to pay the deposit the following morning. He then escorted me to my room and assisted with my luggage.
The hostel facilities are great, and if staying in a private room like myself, it just feels like a small hotel rather than a hostel.
Free flowing beer is available to residents from 3pm each day, which I thought was a nice touch.
The pool area, although small, is lovely to lounge about and meet fellow travellers, one evening, a movie was played by the pool.
The highlight of my stay at Roomates was the cafe/bar area, everything I ordered here was delicious and I thought reasonably priced. But the service received from Sri was outstanding, I stay in 5 star hotels around the world with work and never have I received hospitality such as Sri’s. She takes the time to get to you and every morning knew my coffee order before I needed to say anything, which is always lovely when one is still trying to open their eyes. She is an asset to the hostel and really made my stay there so much better.
Saying that, every member of staff I had the pleasure of speaking too were amazing, they all clearly love their jobs and happy to welcome visitors.
I will most certainly be returning to to Roomates Canggu in the future, thank you so much for your warmth and hospitality, it really made my first few days in...
Read moreA nice hostel located conveniently about a 10min walk away from Batu Bolong Beach. Really close by to Motel Mexicola and Old Man's as well. The hostel is located a little far away from the main road though, you gotta walk through a long alley way, but there are tons of hostels and villas along the way, so there's usually people always walking along the path.
The nearest convenience store is about a 7min walk away from the hostel.
The rooms are really cozy, and clean. House keeps cleans the rooms everyday and makes your bed. There's a storage area right beside your bed, so you don't have to climb down from the top (if you're on the top bunk) just to get something from your bag. Do take note that there's only a small little safe to keep your valuables, you wouldn't be able to store your bag there. So I'd recommend getting a little lock so that you can just lock the zipper on your bag.
The breakfast options were super good! Lots of options to choose from. There's a jacuzzi located on the 3rd floor and a nice pool on the 1st floor. However, there wasn't much of a hostel vibe here, it felt more like a hotel instead. There weren't any activities being organized by the hostel to meet people. But I guess if you're extroverted, that wouldn't be a problem.
You can also attend surf lessons, which the hostel provides, together with a 3rd party surf school. It's about IDR 350k for a 2hr private surf lesson at Batu Bolong Beach.
There's a spa located within the hostel if you're looking to get a massage. The hostel also offers bike rental if...
