We stayed in the deluxe couple room for five nights, and from the moment we arrived, Christine welcomed us with a big smile. She was incredibly accommodating, explained everything about the house in detail, and even shared valuable local tips that made our stay better. Our room was spacious, featuring a large and comfortable bed with one pillow per person. The design was minimalist, with just a single piece of furniture for belongings—no bedside tables, hangers, or drawers for clothes. There was a sink for washing up inside the room, and next to it, the toilet room had the typical Indonesian setup: a WC, bidet hose, and bath shower all within the same cubicle, without a glass partition or curtain. Despite this layout, the water pressure was strong, and the temperature was consistently hot—perfect for refreshing after a day of exploring. The house itself was quiet, making it great for restful sleep. There was no street noise, though the early morning prayers could be heard—something unavoidable throughout Yogyakarta. Breakfast was included and featured something different each morning. The staff kindly accommodated our vegetarian diet, serving delicious meals daily. In the common kitchen, cold and hot water were freely available, along with tea and coffee, which was a thoughtful touch. Renting a scooter was easy and made getting around the city effortless. The location was ideal for exploring everything Yogyakarta has to offer. For us, this stay was perfect, but we recognize that preferences vary—those seeking a more Western-style experience may find the setup different from what they’re used to. However, if you're open to embracing local ways, this is a fantastic place for a holiday. We are incredibly grateful to Christine and the staff for their kindness,...
Read moreThe hosts are very nice and helpful. They really try to make your stay pleasent and give you all the helpful tips. But I have to write - place is very run down. Room ia big, but empty. Thw bed is clearly old and very uncomfortable, also linen is stained (that we found to be a big peoblem in whole indonesia and unaccaptable). The garden is also very run down and has a big well that is source of huge amount of nosquitoes (we killed 8 on our first day in room). The who place is dusty and coffee cups were not washed properly, so we did not use them. Breakfast is choice Indonesian or western. We chose Indonesian, but it was very strong flaviours for breakfast, so just be aware, also a bit too oily. This is not fault of hosts of course but nearby is mosque and its noise wakes you up at 4 am. The room with private bathroom was quite pricy and frankly not worth it, maybe cheaper rooms...
Read moreWe spent 5 nights at Ndalem homestay and we are so happy we did it. The atmosphere is super relaxed, all the other guests tuned in with the same vibe and Christine is such a lovely and caring lady. Keep in mind you are in a neighborhood that is inside of walls, which is cool if you move around with a scooter, but can be tricky if you are planning to walk everywhere as you have to find the doors in the wall to get out. I didn't give 5 stars just cause I think there is room for improvements. This place has such a potential, with few little details and a couple of bedside tables in the deluxe room you can reach a higher level. Note: the deluxe room is just in front of the breakfast area so if some guests it's up early in the morning you might need earplugs as you can hear...
