Griya Langen is located inside the walls of Keraton Yogya (Sultanate Palace), within walking distance from the South Square (Alun-alun Selatan) of the Keraton. It's more of a guesthouse that the owner made from extra space of his premises. So, don't expect a spacious real estate. This guesthouse gives you a homy feeling far away from home. We stayed only for one night and reserved three rooms. You can also stay at a house-type accommodation, if you're traveling in a large group. Some parts of the land was undergoing construction works to accommodate more guests. The lady in charge attended with care. Reservation was made in a conventional way, through phone calls and text messages. Be sure to bargain! Yes, you read it right, bargain for the room price. I had mine marked down a bit plus a free extra bed. Checking in and out, amenity requests, done without any hassles. Room size was adequate for our small family. Hot water and air conditioner working properly. No issue with our sleep quality. Authentic Javanese home cooking served for our breakfast. Only downside is that you need transportation to get around and about. All in all, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for an inside experience within the walls of the...
Read moreDefinitely would not recommend the standard rooms. I think most of these 5 star reviews are fake. The room was quite old with yellowed lighting, rotting door siding, and dusty curtains/windows; the mattress sunk. The bathrooms reeked of mothballs and had no hot water. Also there are definitely mice/rats in the ceilings even in the mornings. The service was not very attentive though they are sometimes around and willing if you ask for the help. They seemed more busy w/ going about their own daily lives. The kitchenette was piled with dirty dishes and unusable. The TV channels take a few seconds to change each. The private suites looked nicer but still a stones throw away from where I saw mice. It is in a quiet neighborhood with nothing much (commercial) around which was fine. The only other plus I would say is the soto (chicken soup) for breakfast was...
Read moreLovely, modern Guest House with all the amenities one could want (including kitchenette, communal fridge and A/C in the rooms). Our room, bathroom and the communal areas were clean. The breakfast was home-cooked and excellent every time. The family who owns the guest house is very friendly, even if the members speak varying degrees of English they went out of their way to help us out regardless of whether it was to find a place to eat dinner, get transport, or prepare a little breakfast in the wee a.m. hours when we left for the Prambanan Temple. The guest house is quiet at nights, as it is in a residential area, but also not too far from an alun-alun, the Kraton (Palace) and various other...
