Starting with the good. The beds are comfortable and the shower pressure is nice. If you are after a group of rooms for a big family gathering, this would work well. The service was friendly, but they weren't actually able to deliver any service. The level of English was well below what I expected. The bad. They must be having a very serious pest problem because all the rooms smell very strongly of naphthalene - which is toxic. I found (and removed) about 8 balls of it in my small room, and another stuck in a bag wedged in the AC, so toxic fumes were constantly being pumped in. But even with them gone the fumes lingered. We all had headaches and I could taste it. The common space had even more - I think the strength of the fumes in the common space kept permeating into our room even when our poison balls were removed. I spoke to reception, who didn't seem to understand that these fumes are actually poisonous, and don't just 'smell bad'. I was shown another room, but it was still laced with the insecticide. I would never recommend it, because good hotels do not fill their guest rooms with toxic and offensive fumes. I cannot overstate how shockingly bad this was. We couldn't sit in our room or use the common space because the toxic smell was overwhelming. The breakfast was very disappointing. It's pre-prepared at some unknown time (today was a fried egg, some dry toast and some cold potato wedges), and is cold and limp when you get to it. Waste of good food. There was also very little sound proofing between the rooms. Our neighbours alarm went off at 5am, and it was so loud it woke us all. I would strongly encourage you to stay elsewhere until they sort out whatever pest problem they have. I consider this hotel is providing a genuinely unsafe and toxic...
Read moreThe most beautiful, serene place I've ever stayed in - not just in Jogja, perhaps anywhere. The kindly ladies at the desk helped me get my bearings upon arriving and I always feel well taken-care of. My travel weary self was so glad to find my room neat, air-conditioned, and gently smelling of woody flowers. The common areas are also very well decorated with lots of natural light (without it ever getting too hot because Jogja heat is no joke) and my favorite part of the whole place is the pool! Also, this place is located really close to Alun-alun Jogja which is a cool place to explore especially in the evenings. Another thing I appreciate is their super affordable laundry service - my clothes came back smelling like flowers!
They don't provide breakfast here but that's no problem - there are plenty of vendors in the area offering authentic fare that'll put a smile on your face.
I'll definitely stay here again. A big shoutout to Mbak Ningrum for her incredible knowledge of the place and...
Read moreI knew if I kept trying different hotels I would eventually find a great one and this is it.
So far in Java I've stayed at the Cavendish, Amaris, The Royal Surakarta Hermitage as well as some others.
This one is the best yet. The Superior room cost me around $38 AUD is clean, large, looks beautiful and is well finished.
The staff are the friendliest I have met, there is a kitchen that guests can use including mineral water and Mango juice for free. There were even snacks in my room.
The pool looks great and although the location is not as close to Marlioboro St it is no problem getting there and Alun Alun Kidul is walking distance away.
If I return to Jogja I will definitely...
