Fernroyd House was by far my favorite place we’ve stayed on our trip, for so many reasons. Tony & Avril are lovely hosts who work extremely hard to make everything awesome. They made us feel right at home, and treated us so much like family that it was hard not to jump up and help with breakfast like I would if I was actually staying with family! The food was delicious - fresh and perfectly made. The room was a great size, with comfortable beds and a nice big private bathroom. There’s no AC, but we didn’t miss that at all because the weather in Cork is so mild (even in late July). The location is great - in a quiet, safe neighborhood, but close enough for an easy walk to some local restaurants and right across the street from the local university campus, which is beautiful and fun to explore. Tony and Avril were also great with suggestions on local places to visit, and very kindly made a late dinner reservation for us at a great restaurant (where it’s tough to get a table) when our flight was severely delayed. If I could give them 10 stars I absolutely would, and I wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else in Cork when we do eventually come back for another visit. Thank you both so much for a...
Read moreTony and Avril are two incredible people who will spoil you and cosset you in their utterly gorgeous Edwardian house as if you were a long lost family member. Nothing is too much trouble and they have thought of literally everything to make your stay extra special. Rooms are spotless and luxurious with wonderful bedlinen and soft fluffy towels. Showers are powerful and bathrooms beautifully tiled. There are tea and coffee making facilities in each room and the breakfasts are absolutely superb. Avril’s homemade blueberry scones will live forever in my memory as the best scones I have ever eaten. Most of all it’s the warmth and generosity of spirit with which Tony and Avril open their home and their hearts that make them stand out. Their dedication to making your stay in Cork special is amazing. They have loads of great recommendations and will give you a map annotated with these. They also have beautiful photo books of the area to peruse. They have a motto at the door which says “Come as strangers, leave as friends” and this could not be more true. We loved Cork and we will definitely be back and, when we do, we would love to stay here again. I don’t think we could ever stay anywhere...
Read moreWe stayed at Fernroyd House for two nights while in Cork, Ireland. We are about 1.5 weeks into our Ireland trip, and at the time of writing this, staying with Tony and Avril has been our favorite lodging by far. Amazing location. Right next to Cork University College. A block away from a waterway. Minutes walking distance from downtown. Beautiful rooms. Lots of extra perks (e.g., ear plugs on the night tables). Lovely breakfasts too.
Best of all were Tony and Avril. Exquisite hosts. Friendly, genuine, welcoming, sociable (but respectful of your space), keen to provide suggestions re: things to do. Tony even offered to help park our car from the narrow streets to the lot area. I'd have loved to talk to them more, but we wanted to be respectful of their active lives. They were so fun and grounded. We would come back to say again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend to book should you...
