Lovely park and such parks are severely lacking in Cork City. Having lived in Dublin, and experiencing the abundance of city centre parks, we in Cork are being left wanting. Nevertheless, this park has a lovely playground, a nice cafe, and a well kept water attraction. Named after Edward Fitzgerald, an older Lord Mayor of Cork, the park has recently been refurbished and redesigned with some of the garden architecture/features created by renowned garden architect Dermot Gavin. The park tends to get overcrowded in summer and the playground is designed in such a way that parents cannot keep an eye on younger children when they go to the opposite side. This makes losing younger children quite problematic in this playground based on my experience. Obviously, that's is not a problem with older children. The city badly needs more parks like this both on the north and south side. The whole area has a nice laid back atmosphere and there's a lovely cafe (the natural foods bakery) providing high quality food and coffee at one end of the park. Read moreBest Park in Cork. Very near to City centre (walking distance) great for picnics and school trips. There is a museum here and also a smaller artist exhibition just inside the gates in a smaller building but the park itself is the star attraction. Interesting walks everywhere, go off the main paths to find hidden gems. Large rose garden, multiple statues, sculptures and subtle designs hidden all over the place. Take your time and there is plenty to see. There is also a very large, modern play area for kids. There is areas of this park when you could pitch a tent and live under a tree or behind some bushes and no one would find you for weeks if they didn't actually look. Everyone sticks to the paths when there is so much more to see....
Read moreFantastic park to go to for any occasion. Families with kids will love this park. Huge playground area for your kids to spend all their energy on. Plenty of walkways for a leisurely stroll, for fitness or simply to enjoy nature and fresh air. Beautifully arranged plant life and well maintained. The highlight is the walkway next to river Lee. Plenty of space to find the right spot to sit down and recharge your inner batteries. One more thing. The park has a roofed over open air stage. Depending on the season, I supose, you have free open air music. Summer is a good time to enjoy the bands performing...
