If I could give zero stars I would. We booked this place weeks ago a nice night away with the kids after a day at Emerald Park for the little lads birthday. When i booked i spoke with the hotel to arrange something as a suprise in the room for him, and they we very quick to come back and respond that they would be delighted. Happy days, we were super excited. Booked dinner for 7pm too as thought this would be a nice treat too. Upon arrival, the tiniest sign for parking is in the top of the bar, we eventually found this to go in and find that the carpark was diabolical! You couldn't swing a cat in it, let alone park a car. We just about made it back out and parked in a public car park a short walk across the road. Check in was fine and i gave the girl at reception the birthday cake to have as our desert and a suprise for the little man. We went upstairs and as there was a suprise for him in the room, we sent him in first. Low and behold, NOTHING! My hubby thought maybe we had the wrong room. We left the bags and went down to have dinner and i said I'd say it to reception on the way. I spoke to the young girl at reception who when read the notes, nearly died and apologised and said she could do it now if taht suits. No problem, we were going for dinner anyway and would be a good hour to give them time. The bistro was in the bar, which was so so packed! Music blasting! You couldn't hear yourself think. We said to the gent that we had a table booked for 7 for 5. Because the place was so manic he said he doesn't have a table can we wait, ok no problem, we brought the kids out for a wander around the hotel. We went back up and the gent had cleared a table for us, in the middle of the bar with 3 kids, were you were literally shouting to hear eachother. We asked is there anywhere we can sit that we didn't have the kids in the bar or that was a bit quieter that we had booked it for the bistro. There was a second part at the back of the hotel and we went there, happy out. The girl serving here was very pleasant and took out order and drinks no problem. She was very friendly and over this part completely by herself with the tables. When the food came out, i wasn't sure what to think. The kids pizza was covered in grind pepper, the fish and chips were very over cooked, my husbands pizza was a meat pizza and the meat was like rubber, obviously microwaved. Disgusting! Only good thing was the kids burger. We had the cake for dessert and the girl serving was a delight with the also. But come this stage we just wanted to go back to the room and get sorted. We were annoyed and pissed off but brushed it off as at least when we go back up the room will have the suprise done. Again when we went upstairs and got out of the lift, we sent the little lad in first for his suprise, i recoreded both occasions, and again NOTHING!!. After speaking with the girl at reception only an hour before that and her saying she will sort it and how sorry she was to then obviously not bother at all. The room was so warm, we tried to sleep with the windows open but the noise on the street from boy racers, drunks and fights i had to close them to not wake the kids. My hubby rang reception at about 2am to see could we get some water for the room as there was nothing in the room and no vending machine to get them. The night porter he spoke to just say, i have to clean the bar, I'm too busy. If you come down I'll give you ice.. We ordered room service because i couldn't deal with going back down the restaurant and just wanted to get sorted and get out of there. The breakfast came and the staff who delivered it up were very pleasant. The food was uneditable, absolutely disgusting! The bathroom was filthy, black all around the shower and bath. We washed up, packed and left. This put such a spoiler on the whole celebration of our sons birthday and the brilliant family time we had at Emerald Park. I will most certainly NOT be recommending this place to anyone. Baffles me that these places advertise deals with the like of Emerald Park when its so...
Read moreTo anyone on the fence about booking their weddings here DO IT !!! We are just home from our wedding weekend and we cannot tell you in stronger terms how absolutely amazing each of the three days we spent here were. Our four children have kept saying how great a time they’ve had, so much fun. We arrived Friday at about 4pm and the car park was fairly full, but completely manageable I have seen reviews complaining about the size, and yes it is a little tight (I’ve also seen complaints about noise…. From the road… you’d have to laugh honestly how can a hotel be responsible for people driving on a public road 🤣 some would just complain about the grass being too green and water being too wet to be fair. Little to be at) but none of us including our wedding guests had any issues managing it. As you go up the first ramp there is a ramp directly beside it and I think a lot of people are incorrectly assuming this is the ramp to use to access the second level.. you need to drive to the end of the car park where you will find both the exit ramp and the ramp to L2. Plenty of big jeeps / estate cars managed it no hassle. We as a table of 10 sat in Rowleys bar for dinner on night 1 and each of us ordered different meals from Chowder to Stir Fry to Pizza etc, everyone was raving about the quality they were just divine. On the morning of the wedding we ordered breakfast to our room for 10 people, what arrived far surpassed our expectations - fresh fruit, juices, pastries and cooked breakfasts - which were divine!! The guys that brought the breakfast up made a huge fuss of us and the kids - seriously the staff were so good it’s actually rare to be so blown away by everyone. Our Wedding day, I don’t know how to thank Nicola, Stephanie, Ian and the lovely Ava on reception enough.. you made our days with you so special. You couldn’t do enough for us, or our children. All of the team, including your housekeeping, security staff and nightporter were so attentive, kind, warm and friendly. No request was ever an issue..Every person we met were just a pleasure. Our Wedding meal was beautiful and cooked to perfection - it can be so hard to accommodate every palate but every person I met raved about the food!! In fact you wouldn’t believe the amount of people that came up to us and told us this was the best wedding they had ever been to, we had a such a mix of ages attend the wedding and to hear from such a variety of people that the wedding was the best they had been to is a testament to all the staff in the Newgrange. Our Bridal suite was stunning and we were so blessed to have our children and my grandmother right next door to us in an ENORMOUS family room which was gorgeous!! Plenty of vending machines dotted around as well to pick up snacks, drinks and water bottles which meant we barely had to leave the hotel! Even had an area to recharge phones if needed - I mean the hotel has really thought of everything. Our band Men in Black were added to our package and we’re out of this world - they were the heart and soul of the evening! My only complaint is that it’s over :( we want to do it again and there is not one single thing I would change!! You’ll never make everyone happy all of the time - but you certainly made us all, and all of our guests and our children very happy. Thank you thank you...
Read moreGood location but that’s about it, we had booked last minute for a valentines night, although we had another booking for the next day they couldn’t put us in the same room for both which is fair enough it was late notice, however on arrival the situation was expressed to one of the receptionists who proceeded to tell my boyfriend that she would make it possible for us to check out at twelve and check into another room at twelve or around that time at the least… our first room was a base level double and single wasn’t great, the door lock didn’t work which we found a bit unsettling, the shower head was nearly falling off, every time you had a shower it would flood the bathroom resulting in the place being soaked unless you used three towels on the floor to clean it up, the bedside lights didn’t work, the radiatior wasn’t working, we had turned it on as the room was cold and when we came back was still as it was. We checked out at twelve and came down and it was a different receptionist who was fairly unpleasant. I’ve worked in hospitality and hotels myself I understand it’s a stressful job. But when theirs no queue for anyone else to check out it’s not that hard to be pleasant to a guest. Decent courtesy. We explained the situation to her and she said she would ring us if we could check in early. She then proceeded to “send” a message to housekeeping over a radio to housekeeping letting them know room 109 was waiting to check in. I wasn’t expecting to be let in straight away at twelve but it would have been expected as it was communicated to us that we could check in early. It takes a half hour to clean a room to the standard that the rooms are being cleaned to in this hotel so I would have expected one or two o clock at the latest. I then emailed at one wondering when the room would be ready and asked if she could email when it is. To which she responded that she would email us. Which she didn’t. Rather than us going off and being able to plan a day around a four o clock check in we were hanging around navan waiting on an email to which we never received which is very poor form.
Upon check in at four everything seemed alright with the second room, however when we got to the room it stank of cigarettes which we sussed out was a big pool of water underneath the window filled with cigarette butts. Out of a double deluxe room I wasn’t impressed at all. I’m a non smoker myself and it put me off the room completely. Their was no remote provided in the room for the Tv and their was no toilet brush in the bathroom which is disgraceful. It costs ten euro for a toilet brush. A service station would have one so youd expect a hotel would have one also.
I wasn’t expecting much for a three star but this has completely disappointed me and I would recommend for anyone staying to take a look at the reviews previous.
On a better note the staff at breakfast were lovely and the girl at the bar on Saturday...
