I went to the Royal Meath on the Friday of the Easter bank holiday, April 2022. I went in with my friends, sat down and we racked up around a 100 euro bill of drink and food before I was followed to the toilet by the manager Siobhan and asked to leave the bar as she had received a complaint about mine and my friends outfits. We are a group of young girls in our 20s, we are always respectful and kind to bar staff in any pub we are in. I was wearing a mini skirt and a crop top with a jacket, but to be honest, if I walked in wearing nothing it shouldn't be a problem. Because a man over sexualised my outfit and complained to the manager, I had to leave a bar I had just spent my money in. Siobhan was rude, unprofessional and cold towards me because of how she perceived me from what I was wearing. I have never heard of a bar or nightclub having any such dress code especially in 2022. No where on the Royal Meath website or inside the pub does it state that young women will be thrown out of their pub for what they wear. It is a misogynistic, out dated and frankly judgemental attitude. I left the pub and went to several other pubs in Navan, where no one had a problem with mine or my friends outfits. A professional manager would have asked the man who complained to leave, considering the fact that him feeling uncomfortable is not anything to do with me. I was quietly enjoying my food and drink as were all of my friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the Royal Meath for food and drink the few times I have been there which is why it is a pity that I will never step foot inside of this bar again. There are many inclusive bars and pubs all over Ireland that welcome people of all kind, which is not the approach the Royal Meath's management team has. Please put a sign in the window warning young people about this treatment as it is quite frankly humiliating to be asked to leave a bar as a paying customer due to a fashion...
Read moreThe Royal is a family ran pub for the past 50 years. The interior is decorated beautifully & it is wonderfully cosy with an open fire in the lounge & a wood burning stove in the bar. Ambient lighting & candlelight add to the cosy atmosphere. It is a great music venue with talented local musicians & DJs providing entertainment 7 nights a week. The staff are friendly & efficient and offer an excellent selection of gins & craft beers. There is also the Stable Room with its own bar which is available for private functions. Just outside the side door there is a beer garden with colourful seating sheltered by a huge awning. There is overhead heating to keep you warm while you sip your wine or beer & watch the colourful bunting blowing in the breeze -...
Read moreNice bar in the middle of Navan town centre. Always a lively spot with a great atmosphere & music on occasions. They have a food menu which includes pizzas and also have a smoking area with small tables/heaters to stand beside. The only thing I would say about the Royal Meath is that it is extremely narrow & with tight space and the toilets are extremely small and it can be hard uncomfortable as you may have to go through a many people to try get to the bar or the toilets on busy days or evenings. But I still would recommend Royal Meath as a great place to...
