Absolutely love this hotel. It has a lovely atmosphere, created by generations of being a family owned and run business. Everyone is so attentive and you are made to feel so welcome all the time. It's better than a home from home. The bedrooms are large and airy with amazingly comfortable beds, which are so big both of us can stretch out and have room to spare. The rooms we've stayed in have had spa baths in good sized bathrooms that are well equipped and have the usual hair dryer and toiletries. The restaurant is an experience you must try, even if you don't stay in the hotel. For residents the breakfast variety is really good and there's plenty of everything to set you up for a good day's skiing or walking. We've not had lunch yet but the menu always looks so good. Dinner however is something we look forward to after a hard day in the mountains. There's a fantastic buffet course to start with a variety of salads, meats, cheeses and special, local dishes. The pasta or rice course is beautifully balanced and is again usually a local dish. The main, meat course is a hearty dish, again of a local origin. After all that food, if you can manage it, there's a choice of cheeses or desserts that you really must try to leave room for as they're delicious. After dinner there's a lovely set of lounge areas and side rooms to relax and enjoy a drink or a game of cards, watch TV etc. If you bring your own skis or boots there's a warm boot room in the cellar with handy access outside to the hotel mini bus that runs to Campo Smith in the morning. If you miss this though there's a bus stop about 200 metres down the road. Many guests return to Hotel des Geneys for years and years, ourselves included. Try it at least once and maybe you'll be...
Read moreFaded glory is the catchphrase, and maybe time warp! Other reviews talk of friendly owner/managers- we found the opposite. There is a synthetic warmth from the once-Parisian female owner, and the standard of service is really not worthy of the hotel’s name. Things are not arranged in order to suit the guests. The building and decor is dated, but more importantly, the owners need to get to grips with modern customer service.||The spa is a joke! Read moreStayed for a week's skiing. We were very warmly welcomed, which continued throughout our stay. As is documented this is a family run hotel, which gives it warmth and charm. Decor dated or "traditional"? either way everything was clean and very comfortable. Owners & staff could not do enough for us. We enjoyed a 4 course dinner every evening, attended expertly by 2 waiters. I could have feasted on the hors d'oeuvres alone, such a great, tasty choice. There was a thoughtful variety in each course - meat, fish or vegetarian. Delicious, authentic Italian cuisine. Accommodation was roomy with a balcony, 2 wardrobes and plenty of shelves/cupboards. Beds comfortable and the bathroom perfect. Excellent shower with drench and body jets with limitless hot water; just what was needed after a day on the slopes. Yes it's a 15 minute walk to Campo Smith, (which was not a surprise, it was in the brochure). A good warm-up but Luigi was also happy to ferry us in the morning and collect at an agreed time if we wanted. The resort shuttle bus also stopped about 5 mins away. We didn't use the fitness room but when we arrived and were shown around, it was explained to us how it all worked. The hotel is well situated for a quick walk into town for shops, restaurants, bars etc and also the Old Town area. We had a...
