I’ve only stayed in a hostel once prior to this trip & usually don’t even consider checking out hostels for accommodation when travelling but booked this hostel, based on the recommendation of a friend that lives in Bergamo. What a great recommendation that turned out to be for all 3 of us that stayed.||Easy to find, just a short walk from the train station. A very friendly & informative check in & we were quickly in the lift up to our floor with our room key & a fob (needed to access the building after, I think, 01.00 but it could have been earlier). ||Our room was big & clean, fairly basic but still a lot better than expected. With a laminate floor, 4 single beds, smoke alarm, air con, wall mounted tv, dresser, full length mirror, safe & plenty of electric sockets. There were secure lockers in the room with the padlock costing 2.00 Euros. No issue with noise from inside or outside of the building & a number of windows allowed an abundance of natural light. Electric window shutters & blinds kept that light out in the mornings when sleep was the priority.||The bathroom was a nice size & well equipped with a laminate floor, shower cubicle that wasn’t the biggest, shower head & hose on rail with easy to control flow & temp & with great water pressure & plenty of hot water, bidet, wall vent, window, wall mounted hairdryer, spare electrical socket, small sachets of hair/bodywash & towels that were changed daily.||Breakfast was served in the adjoining bistro from 07.30 to 09.30 but it was noticeable that they rushed to start clearing & cleaning from approx 09.10. Two breakfast choices , both buffet. Italian, which was basically just coffee & a croissant & cost 2.00 Euros or continental, which had coffee, tea, orange & pineapple juices, mini waffles, ham slices, cheese, yoghurts, fresh bread rolls, dry breads, croissants, corn flakes, choco pops, fresh whole fruits, jam & honey & which cost the unbelievably low price of just 4 Euros.||The bar in the hostel didn’t seem to have too much activity. I had to go to reception & staff from there would come to serve me. Reasonably priced with 33cls bottles of Peroni & other Italian beers costing 2.50 euros each. We could also bring in our own beer or wine ( & food ) from a local supermarket, so long as we cleaned up afterwards.||There is a large communal room with comfortable seating that was great for relaxing & meeting & chatting to other travellers with a large screen/tv & table football which cost 50 cents per game. Also in this room, large left luggage lockers which cost 1 Euro for 6 hours.||There is a computer room, free for guests to use, with 3 pcs. Car parking, I believe, was free. There is a very nice outside area which would be great in summer for sitting out & chilling. There were recycling waste bins all over the building, impossible to miss. Available to purchase were deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors & shaving foam, toilet rolls & ladies sanitary products. Umbrellas were also available, free of charge & of course, had to be returned.||As we paid in full on checking in (after paying a deposit equal to one night on booking) & left early, we had nothing more to do than leave our key & fob in a box at the reception desk, when leaving for our journey home.||There are many, many shops in close proximity to the hostel including Mango, Zara etc, numerous cafes & restaurants, a pharmacy, tabac shops & Pam supermarket. We ate in Nasti restaurant which was really good & drank in Sant’ Orsola Canadian pub on a few occasions over our time in Bergamo.||Also close to the hostel – the train station, bus stops for a number of routes & Porta Nuova. The funicular to Citta Alta is approx 15 – 20 mins walk. ||To get to the hostel from the airport, we took bus no.1 to the train station & then the short walk from there. At the airport, we bought tourist 72 hour transport tickets which cost 7.00 Euros each & gave us unlimited travel for 72 hours from validation (validate the ticket on the airport bus) on city buses & the airport bus & funicular. Those tickets can also be bought at...
Read moreNot horrible, but I definitely wouldn’t stay there again unless I had to. It was uncomfortable and felt sort of “sketchy” in my shared dormitory room. Maybe it’s a better experience if you have a private room or are staying with people you know. I think the hostel could be a lot better if there were dormitories just for women. Also, there needs to be a way to keep out mosquitoes. So many mosquitoes!
Positives: The location is good; it’s walkable to the train station or the old part of the city. The front desk ladies are super nice. 😊 They were also very kind and responsive when I emailed. The cleaning staff was also friendly. The bed linens were clean and crisp. The shared dormitory room has 4 single beds and 1 bunk (2 beds). I really like having single beds. You’re provided with simple toiletries (a packet of shower gel/ shampoo and a small soap.)
Could be better: There were so many mosquitoes in the room!!🦟 Even with the windows closed!😟 You need bug spray or a mosquito net. I pulled the bed sheet over my entire body and head, which was too hot, but it helped keep the mosquitoes from biting me. Very miserable night! Also, the toilet and shower room are the same. And only one person can use that room at a time. It’s not enough. I had to wait 40 minutes to use the toilet at night, and in the morning, I gave up trying to use the bathroom because I was going to be late for my flight. I walked around looking for another bathroom to use. I finally found one tucked away near the reception desk on the ground floor. It was much better than the toilet in my room (but no shower there). As some reviews mention, it doesn’t feel like a normal backpacker hostel. My room had almost all men, mostly older. It felt a little sketchy. As a single woman, it was uncomfortable for me. I would not recommend it to other women. Also, I think the rooms would feel much nicer if there were only 4 beds a room, instead of 6. With everyone paying 27€ each, I think this would still be very reasonable. Also, you need to have your own lock for...
Read moreI stayed at this hostel for 1 night. The one girl at the desk was so rude and had a very unpleasant demeanor as if guests should be grateful for having their hostel whereas the hostel should be grateful they still have business.||It is expensive for nothing. No breakfast and blames it on Covid, No kitchen facility to cook. The dormitory room, beds are too close to each other and all available for other guests not practicing social distancing. I have slept in hostels where every other bed is marked off as unavailable to practice COVID safety. ||Most hostels I sleep in, they aim to please and are always friendly or at minimum, pleasant in welcoming a guest but not here. The main advantage of this hostel is it is close to the cafes and restaurants, shops. However, the fact that it is very close to the train station, it also attracts some strange people, like the one in my room who screamed off and on during the night. I thought he was dreaming but when he woke up in the morning, he started to talk and point at me. It was very frigthening actually. Except for one African young man who seemed normal, it was only because of him, I felt a bit more calm. The hostel has only one dormitory room and the rest are private rooms. I would not stay here again. I also woke up with 2 bites on my face. I dont think they are from mosquitoes because usually I hear them at night and cover myself....
