Youth Hostel Bolzano — Hotel in Bolzano - Bozen

I was looking forward to staying here because of all the great reviews. While the rooms are nice and the building in good shape, the breakfast is very basic. The staff do not enforce the current mask requirement and there were multiple people unmasked at the breakfast buffet line. I did mention it to staff but I won’t be eating breakfast here my last day so no idea if they will do a better job of enforcing it. People are also not masking in the halls where there is no ventilation. You’ve got to show proof of vaccination to eat inside a restaurant but people are walking around inside a youth hostel unmasked because it’s not being enforced. |||| There is also no covered location to store bicycles so if it rains your bike will get wet. ||||And finally, worst of all is that smoking is permitted on the balconies and the courtyard. Given that the hostel is popular with families this is really unacceptable. I’m used to being in the USA where smoking is not permitted and I have to say that the number of people out smoking on balconies has really been awful. It stinks terribly and even with the windows closed the smell still comes in the rooms. Given that there are ash trays out on the balconies the Hostel clearly thinks it’s perfectly fine so no point in asking management to do something about it. I would definitely not recommend staying here for families or If you are like me and do not like the smell of smoke. I won’t be staying here again. Questions were answered promptly when I emailed and bookings were made via email. No payment needed till we arrived. Credit card is accepted. Stayed 4 nights. Got a room for 4 to ourselves which is en suite. Love it that the toilet is separate from shower and the room has 2 wash basins making it convenient for 4 persons. View of mountains with train and bus stops right in front. Our sleep was not disturbed despite the traffic. 15min walk to town centre. Easy access to Obereggen, Rittner Horn and Lake of Carezza via public bus at the bus stop in front of hostel. There is a Despar supermarket behind the hostel within 5 mins walk or a Coop supermarket in town within 15 mins walk. Hot water available in the kitchen. Safe hostel with clean rooms for people of all ages. Clean sheets were on the bed when we arrived. We made our beds with the sheets provided. There is a ventilator in the restrooms, which kept floors dry. Great breakfast with 4 different cereals, 2 different yogurt, various spreads, 2 types of bread and cheese, warm and cold milk, orange juice, coffee, tea and chocolate drink. Love the big and warm smile from the lady staff member at breakfast every morning. Friendly service from Iris at the front desk. Good value for money. Would be great if they have more hangers in the cupboard and that they have an online booking system for secure payment and data. Will definitely come back here when I visit...

I think its the only cheap option to stay in bolzano and that is enough reason to stay here. Even in the dolomites, this is one of the very few cheap options. That being said, location is great, right next to bus and train stations, walking distance from old town, super close to ritten-renon funicular. Female only dorms are available. Rates are fixed. Booking is via email.

Coming to problems: charging. Firstly, no charging next to beds. Even when this is considered, although there are 4 charging points in 4 person rooms, only 2 can work at a time. I think this is the biggest flaw. Another problem is the shower which automatically switches off. Or maybe, i wasn't able to operate the shower correctly.

Other than this, cons would be sound from bus station. There is no curtain for bunks and so bring your eye mask and ear plugs. The pillow is not the comfiest either. Idk if towels available for rent or not. I had my own towel and so did the girls who stayed in my room. You cannot cook your meals but there is fridge in common space.

On the plus side, i would say pretty clean, friendly staff, okay breakfast (not great but enough), good mattress, very spacious lockers, easy booking, great price for this region. I also liked shower and toilets being completely seperate. This helped a lot when shared by 4 people. There is a garden which is nice. There is both AC and heater at this price point...
