We travelled as a family with small children to the Amalfi Coast for a wedding and spent 3 nights at Residence Eden. |It's important to say at this point that this apartment would be absolutely ideal if you are a couple looking for a central location for exploring the coast with a fantastic view and nice terrace to drink wine in the evening. |However as a family with small children it was overall a bad experience. |Upon arrival we were wowed by the view and had been met by Rosa at a nearby hotel and led to the apartment. Rosa's English was limited as was our Italian but we were shown around the apartment and the welcome was friendly. However it became apparent that what we had believed was a 2 bedroomed apartment with pool, was in fact 2 one bedroomed apartments in a group of 4 with a very small shared pool. 2 adults would struggle to stretch their legs out. For us the lay out of these apartments was completely not what we had expected from the write up and useless for our purposes as our children are both under 5 and their bedroom would have been behind a locked shuttered door in the next apartment. We had tried to email before hand to arrange a cot bed, but had been unable to contact Rosa by email. So the 4 of us ended up sharing one bedroom with a camp bed we had found unmade. On the website it claims that the apartment also came with a sofa bed so it can be used for 3 adults, but when we investigated the sofa bed ourselves found it to have spider bodies and bugs with a mattress so distressed I wouldn't let my dog sleep on. |But we got by and were happy enough with it all. |We had naively skimmed over the terms and conditions expecting the usual small cleaning fee and city tax but on arrival Rosa told us that we would have to pay €64 for cleaning, €10 for wifi (website stated free), city tax and €10 per person for towels/linen. So well in excess of €100 over 3 nights. At this point also Rosa tried to charge us for our children to have towels although we had brought towels for them. |The following morning, we were a little put out when at breakfast we noticed Rosa cleaning the adjacent apartment and instead of enquiring how our stay was, Rosa asked us to make our children quiet as she had new guests that day. We are not precious parents we realise our children can be noisy at times, but not any more than any other children. |This may have seemed worse because of the language barrier but we have always been used to the hosts being very friendly towards our children and struck me as rude. |Later that day we had a carrier bag of rubbish which we placed in the bins on the driveway, but Rosa came out and said these should not be used and instead we should take it to the main road for collection. |On leaving we tidied the room and left only a couple of clean plates on the draining board and a carrier bag of rubbish and proceeded to hand over the keys. Rosa came to inspect the room with us, and again told us to remove the rubbish ourselves but then told us that she would be charging us extra for the towels we had already paid for as she believed we had let our children use them. We disputed this and she was not happy and we felt we left on bad terms carrying the rubbish away with us. |This might seem like we are being picky and it is hard perhaps to convey why this wasn't a good experience, but we have stayed in a number of villas in Italy, France and Spain and have always found the hosts beyond accommodating and zealous. We didn't feel comfortable and almost felt like we were a problem. Especially when, some Italian guests arrived and were made coffees, given sun loungers for the pool and offered breakfast. But we had none of this. As a family our biggest concern was we booked a 2 bedroom apartment and this was not what it was, and if our children were any bigger it could have been a major issue. |On a another note, there are no windows in the bedroom or bathroom and it felt damp and a little dated. The terrace was not safe for children. The pool had no steps or stairs, and no depth marked which made it difficult to access. |Overall. |Either of the apartments would have been suitable for a couple who I'm sure would be more than happy with the view, location and cleanliness. But we found as a family it was unsuitable and could not work out what on earth we were paying the extortionate cleaning fee for if we had to pay for towels and linen extra, tidy the apartment before we left and remove all of our own rubbish off the property. |We wouldn't recommend this apartment because we could have got better for the...
Read moreWe rented the Tramonto apartment, together with one of the double bedded rooms, to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. My parents had just travelled for the past three weeks throughout Europe and on arrival at Resdience Eden remarked staying at this amazing location was the absolute highlight of the trip!||||The views from the terrace and sundeck of Residence Eden are awe-inspiring. It was difficult to tell where the ocean ended and the sky started. The terraces were abundant with beautiful smelling flowers. The pool was a huge hit with our two young children.||||The apartment was comfortable, immaculate and spacious, with all the kitchen amenities you would need and a small private terrazzo. The double bedded room was self-contained with it's own separate entrance. Although not air conditioned, the rooms were always cool even with outside temps of 90 degrees. The only negative was the the double bedded room did not have it's own coffee/tea making facilities.||||The location, being away from the busy tourist towns, was very quiet and tranquil but be aware that it is about a 35 min drive down to the ocean. The local town is about a 15 min. walk from which you can catch a bus if you do not have a car. ||||Rosa and Arturio are wonderful hosts. On arrival, Rosa presented my mother with a long stemmed red rose for her Anniversary and made dinner reservations for us at Hotel Bacco in Furore, a wonderful restaurant with uninterrupted mediterranean views.||||We plan to make this hidden gem our home away from home as...
Read moreLet's give credit where credit is due: The view among the amalfi coast is amazing, the pool suffices to cool down and all the bathrooms were just fine; the kitchen was in working order, but that's all you can say about that.
However, there were also a lot of downsides to this Residence 'Eden' (RE). Let's start at the beginning. At the pick up at the nearby hotel by the owner of RE (who was 45 minutes late), it turned out that wasn't hospitable. Not at all. She was annoyingly waving and beckoning in faulty English that we should follow her. The drive was adominable and nearly impossible for large cars (especially a van) to complete.
Once we were there, it was revealed that the owner and hostess of RE was very unkind to any kind of non-Italian tourist and lived above the appartments. She and her family were also the most loud residents there, especially her infant child whom she did not seem to quiet down when he was screaming at 8 am.
I shall not linger in about the rest, so in summary: The parking spaces at RE are not fit for wide or high cars. The appartments at RE are very poorly cleaned. The twin beds were very, very hard, which resulted in many poor nights rest. The kitchen is very out of date and if you find yourself in a dispute with the owner of RE, it will result in a lot of yelling in Italian (as she does not speak a word English - or basically any other language...
