Our daughter was visiting Italy and became very ill prior to her return to the States. She was hospitalized at Policlinico Umberto in Rome. This hotel is about a 5 minute walk to that hospital. I can’t speak highly enough about the hotel staff. When I made the reservations, we were dealing with a very ill daughter in a country where we did not speak the language. As I was hurriedly making flight arrangements as well as hotel arrangements, I mistakenly reserved the room starting a day too early. When we arrived in Rome and explained the mistake I made, they had NO PROBLEM changing the reservation to reflect the days we were actually there. I thought that was very kind and understanding. As our daughter’s condition continued to evolve, it required us to keep extending our stay. Each time we extended, the front desk was pleasant and understanding, They even informed us to get a medical certificate stating our daughter was in the hospital because doing so would exempt us from paying the city taxes (I guess because we were not tourists). We just feel they are wonderful people who cared about our stay.|Now about the hotel: it is, as I stated earlier, very close to the hospital. It is also about seven tenths of a mile from the Roma Termini train station. We took the train from the airport to Roma Termini and then walked to the hotel. The room we were assigned had a king bed which was comfortable for us both. There is no microwave in the room and the shower is quite small. Neither me nor my wife are big people so it wasn’t a problem but I could see some major dilemmas if you are a large person.|Our air conditioning went out one night and once we reported it to the front desk the next morning, they had a maintenance man there to fix it within minutes. You can’t ask for more than that.|A highlight for me is the breakfast Globus Hotel serves. I saw the pictures of what breakfast looked like but, honestly, didn’t believe that’s what I would find. Well, their breakfasts are wonderful! The people working the breakfast area are equally as nice and pleasant as the front desk. Food is varied and tasty.|We ate at the upstairs restaurant one evening but that didn’t live up to the expectations we had after experiencing the rest of the hotel.|There are TONS of restaurants, large and small, within easy walking distance.|So, after a 10 day stay tending to our daughter, I would not hesitate coming back to this hotel. God bless them all for the kindness and understanding they showed us during a...
Read moreMixed feelings about the hotel. There are definitely some positives but as most people have said, but there are some things needing improvement/modernisation.
Positives The family room which we stayed in had ample space for a family of 4, with enough space to be comfortable and to store the luggage. However probably not enough wardrobe space to allow for a family of 4. Room was basic no frills, reflective in the price. However most essential things were in good working order.
Neutral Location is not central Rome, and its a 20 min walk from Termini, so depends on your own requirement/expectations. However this is the reason why this hotel is a lot cheaper. There are eating options near by in San Lorenzo, but these are a good 10-15 minutes walk. We just ate in central each night before returning to the hotel. Breakfast was OK, but nothing special and as we had to pay for ours (9 Euros a day), so we only tried it for one day. It fills you up to be on your way, but there are much nicer options to be had away from the hotel. However I would say its no better or worse than most hotels in this star rating offering breakfast. Housekeeping was excellent throughout our stay.
Suggestion for improvement Have more plugs in the room, or at the bery least have some USB charging points. Having the limited amount of plug sockets used to charge devices seem a bit old fashioned for 2023 Air conditioning was centralling controled and because of this our room was a tad bit warm, with no indepedent. I went down to reception to ask but was told I could have the fan on (blowing warm air) or off. Sound proofing can be better as you do hear distant sirens in small hours (as many have said, it is near a hospital).
In all, a good budget option for family stays (if you set your expectations to some of the things mentioned above) for exploring Rome but be aware of the extra distance to travel into the tourist hot spots. On public transport it does take 20-30 mins and can seem busy at all times aside from late night. Would recommend if you dont mind the basic rooms, just need a room to sleep for the night and willing to travel a bit out to...
Read moreMy family and I stayed here for our vacation from March 10th to 16th. The overall experience was very disappointing compared to Best Western standards.
I booked the Quadruple Standard room through Expedia. The pictures on Expedia show that the room is meant to be spacious, clean, and modern. However, the room that we arrived to was the complete opposite. The overall appearance of the room was old, cheap, and used. All of the equipment, including the hair dryer, lamps, electric kettle and TV, were low quality. The bed sheets and pillow cases had hair and lint over them.
We decided to upgrade to a different room for an additional fee, but the bed sheets in the new room were also not clean. I tried calling the hotel front desk to get the sheets changed, but the front desk clerk was very rude and unprofessional. She kept trying to end the conversation before I could finish speaking. The cleaning ladies were very nice, but the service was slow. It took nearly 40 minutes to get the sheets changed.
In addition, when we arrived at the hotel, it was very humid and the air conditioning wasn't working. I attempted to explain to the clerk that there was a problem with the air conditioning, but she had no patience and hung up the phone while I was talking. Luckily, there was a very nice maintenance man that explained to us that the air conditioning is turned off for the whole building during this time of year.
Moreover, the Wi-Fi connection was absolutely horrible. It kept either disconnecting or maintaining a speed of 5 mbps. If you need a strong Wi-Fi connection, this is not the place for you.
Finally, the front desk staff were not helpful or friendly at all. If we ever had questions about food recommendations, directions, or bus routes, they got easily annoyed and frustrated. One of the clerks named Francesca especially had an attitude.
The overall experience was very disappointing, especially for the price. If you're looking for a hotel with more than 4-star guest ratings for a reasonable price, I would not recommend Best...
