Let me first start by saying I've stayed at many hotels and I don't have high expectations for hotels as I use the room as a place to sleep and freshen up as I explore when I travel. The location is within a 10 minute walk of the train station so i'ts very close if arriving by train in Rome. The hotel is on a very busy street so expect noise. The male receptionist upon arrival was one of the rudest in hospitality I have had EVER spoke with. He was the only one there and was trying to multitask as he was talking Italian with someone on the phone, not sure what he was saying. There was an elderly couple at the counter waiting for him to get off the phone. Another gentlemen came with a room key and cut in line and kept waiving at him to get his attention but he was being ignored by the receptionist. I was all for it since he didn't feel like he should wait in line like everyone else.
Once he got off the phone, he took the key from the guy that cut in line and just threw it behind him on the shelf. The elderly couple was English and tried to speak Italian to the man and apparently asked him "what is a good pizza place to go to?" You can tell the receptionist was annoyed as he said there is one across the street. When the couple asked if it was good. The guy just said yes. Then the couple pushed harder and asked are there others you would suggest? The guy said there is one to the right and one to the left and one across. You can tell he was annoyed and just didn't care to help the couple.
So that's our initial impression of the hotel! As we walked up to the counter, we told him we needed to check in. He asked us for our voucher, luckily we printed it everything from out trip that included 6 other hotel vouchers printed front and back. We showed him the voucher and he just ripped it out, keep in mind it's printed front and back so there is info on the other side we needed. He used it to figure out the name of the reservation, which he could have asked us but I'm assuming he probably did that b/c it was easier due to the language barrier. He handed us our key and that was that. No smile, no thank you, nothing.
My wife and I would walk to the further elevator and around the corner to try to avoid him b/c of how unfriendly he was every time we entered/left the hotel.
The rooms are what you would expect in a 2 star hotel. There was a piece of paper saying it was a 4 star and that is how they charged for the taxes, which IT IS NOT. There was nothing special about the room and you can hear lots of noise from the busy street as I mentioned earlier. Lots of shoe marks on the wall next to the bed, small room, and old. Bathroom is small and what you expect in a lot of European hotels.
On one occasion in the morning coming down our elevator, we wanted to step outside to see what the weather was like before breakfast. The same receptionist was outside talking to someone in Italian and there was a double door that he was holding open one of 2 doors. I wanted to avoid him so I opened the other door and he was not very happy that I did that, he didn't say anything to me but as I turned back in to head to breakfast, he was visually upset that I opened that door as he pushed it back to shut it.
The included breakfast was uninspiring. Some bread, some ham, cheeses, cereal. Typical European buffet breakfast. The lady working down there was working very hard to refill food, clean up tables and reset tables. The meal was included so I wasn't expecting much anyways.
I would have gave this a 2 star but the receptionist made it a 1 based on his horrible customer service. I would not...
Read moreI should say that we can rough it and are not high maintenance. Traveling internationally I only had access to internet via Wi-Fi, so it's very important to have access to it. This hotel only has Wi-Fi access in the lobby and its very spotty and unpredictable- it continuously cut out or just plain didn't work for us which made it difficult to plan things or find directions. We probably spent more money out at other establishments in order to use other Wi-Fi. The staff was okay but the dining and cleaning staff were loud and rude. While eating breakfast (also not very good, think cheap white carbs and terrible coffee) one of the dining staff was setting tables and literally was throwing the plates on tables. It was very loud and did not make for an enjoyable dining experience. The acoustics are terrible and you can hear a lot going on in the hotel. Each morning we woke up to what we thought was the cleaning staff 'slamming' some type of door; we're not sure what the noise was but it was loud and obnoxious. The room was a decent size but it was weird sleeping in twin beds pushed together. The beds were not comfortable and the sheets were stiff and rough. There was no shower, just the movable shower head- bathroom got pretty wet a few times accidentally. This is the only type of bath they have in the whole hotel. There was a safe and a mini fridge. To use power you need to put the room key in a slot, we were able to get an extra key so we could keep the power on for the fridge. The restaurant across the street Rifugio was really good!! The hotel is very close to the Termini Station which is nice too. Honestly we did not enjoy our stay, would not come back, would not recommend to others, and we checked out early. Don't know how this place has higher reviews on...
Read moreHotel did not meet expectations.
To start, the hotel is not in a nice area to be walking around in, especially in the evening as there are quite a few homeless and lingering people. Hotel is a 25 minute walk to main attractions like Trevi fountain, but walking locations feel a little unsafe, especially for female travellers.
Upon arrival to the hotel, it seemed clean and tidy. Entering the room we noticed it was outdated. There were many essential items that did not work properly. Starting with the bathtub drain not working. We ended up changing rooms after they suggested a technician look at it, which we did not want as people would need to be in the room without us there. The new room did not have a working safe, a working tv or a working phone. The wifi cut out for a day and front desk didn’t know how to restart the router. The air conditioning only works when your room key is in a special slot which allows for all of the electricity to work, so your room will not be cooled down once you return from a hot day of walking around. The AC only got down to 26 degrees, still warm.
The towels had rips and the floors were dusty upon arriving. The bed was two twins pushed together. Both twin beds rock hard, mattress only about 5 inches thick which sits on a wooden frame which you can feel. Pillows were paper thin, had to use our own travel ones. Front desk attempted to help with issues but at times were not knowledgeable, such as not knowing about a Rome taxi strike while trying to call us a taxi to a tour.
If you are looking for accommodations that are clean, safe, and closer walking distance to city centre, I do not recommend this hotel. If you are not fussy and willing to save money and lose some essentials, you will...
