I came to Castelrotto to hike in the mountains above the Alpe di Siusi and the accommodations were perfect for my objectives (location and comfort). First, Petra, the owner/inn-keeper, is absolutely amazing. When I arrived, she provided me an orientation to the town, the accommodations and provided me suggestions about my planned hikes (which I ended up changing due to her comments) and all the timetables for buses and prices for chairlifts, etc. She is a wealth of information (speaks like 4 languages...maybe more) and really makes you feel at home. I honestly did not feel like I was staying at hotel but rather a friend's home! Like others have mentioned, the hostel is immaculate. The views from the rooms are incredible and there is a heated pool for a relaxing swim after hiking all day. Wifi is superb if you need to connect, although this is a place to disconnect! Within 100m there are great restaurants, cafes and a fine supermarket (although it closes at 8pm). If I could do my trip over again, I would have stayed a week instead of only 4 days. I hope to visit again soon! Finally, hiking in this region is the best in the world because it is normally cool in the mountains and when you reach the peak, there is a refugio with good German beer and apple...

Read moreOur stay at Silbernagl couldn't have gone any better and that is due mostly to the hotel hostess, Petra. She is bright, bubbly, personable, and a wealth of information on anything and everything to do in the region. We went a bit early in the hiking season and she was able to tell us which rifugios would be open so we could efficiently plan our hikes. She also recommended we take the Great Dolomite Road on our way to Venice and we were so glad we took her up on it. The views were stunning! ||||The hotel itself is well situated, a short walk away from the Castelrotto/Kastelruth town center where there are plenty of restaurants, a few shops, and a couple of supermarkets. The views from our room (No. 7) were incredible and thankfully it warmed up a bit on our last day so we could enjoy the view while sitting on our balcony. The breakfasts were ample and just the thing to prepare us for a day of hiking. We didn't take advantage of the indoor pool but it looked very inviting. Our room had plenty of room and charm and was well worth having to make sure we paid in cash. Don't worry...there's a bancomat just a 3-minute walk away! It is definitely a good value for the money.||||I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in...
