Hotel Benaco — Hotel in Sirmione

My sister and I stayed here for 4 nights in June and had a wonderful time. The hotel is very comfortable and spotlessly clean with a pool area that has sun all day long from morning till evening with plenty of comfortable loungers and a varied seating area for those who prefer shade. They also have a top floor terrace where one can take drinks, relax, read, play cards and generally chill out with massage chairs and some exercise equipment available for guests to use 24/7. The food is very good and always fresh and tasty kept this way with with a well thought out set menu of a few choices that changes daily. The Owner's wife Signora Vincensina cooks and runs the spotless kitchen, Giorgio her son in law who works with her is an exceptional baker, his fabulously mouthwatering fresh pastry or cakes each morning should not be missed he is truly a master baker sourcing his recipes very carefully and testing them until they are perfect. Marisa and Francesca the owners daughters are front of house and extremely friendly and very helpful and knowledgable of the area having grown up here, their father Signor Angelo the owner keeps a close eye on everything and makes sure all runs like clockwork. The rooms are spotless and very comfortable with air conditioning available in the hotter months once the temperature outside rises above 24 degress C (this is inline with environmental laws) with some having large balconies. The hotel is in a great location very near to Sirmione old town, which is perfectly walkable (roughly a 40 minute picturesque walk). If the weather is too hot or if you prefer you can take the navetta or bus which stops right across the road for very little, the tourist information building can also be found here. The hotel is surrounded by very nice bars, cafes, restaurants and shops (I highly recommend a visit to Dotor'vino directly across the road). Yet it still manages to remain quiet and peaceful in the evening. There is a very short walk directly to the lake where you can walk 'lungolago' and generally take in the beautiful surroundings. The Lugana vineyard is nearby which i believe offer tasting evenings and the wonderful Aquaria thermal spa is well worth a day spent relaxing in the hot sulphurous waters which are sourced from the centre of the lake, they also offer very reasonably priced massage treatments with a clever watch based system for payment so that you can store all your valuables securely. The botanical gardens 'Sigurta' are stunning and also worth visiting as they have been voted one of the best in Europe followed by a light alfresco lunch in the very picturesque village of Borghetto, if you prefer not to walk you can purchase a ticket at the entrance to the gardens and take the little train which goes all the way round the grounds of Sigurta and ends up at the village of Borghetto. I would highly recommend this very friendly family run hotel for its cleanliness, food, exceptional location, amenities and helpfulness. Peggio non potete trovare.||||Prenotato per due: già dal corridoio, tra odore e lo stato generale, mi stavo pentendo della scelta, le foto con cui si pubblicizzano sono ben diverse dalla realtà.||Arrivati in stanza, dietro la porta c’erano bottiglie vuote dei precedenti ospiti: un primo indizio della qualità della pulizia. Sul pavimento peli/capelli, polvere sui mobili. Il ventilatore sopra il letto ballava perché sbilanciato e faceva molto rumore; l’aria condizionata vecchissima “funzionava” male e non raffreddava, ho paura di cosa ci sia dentro visto lo stato della struttura; i divanetti in similpelle erano cotti e lasciavano pezzi in fondo al letto. Ma il peggio doveva ancora venire.||||IL BAGNO.||La “cabina doccia” aveva lo scarico pieno di muffa a pezzettoni e fughe tra le piastrelle anche loro muffe, idem il doccino maleodorante e in condizioni pietose. L’ho fatto presente e in reception sono partiti con la scenetta del “non capiamo come sia possibile, abbiamo cambiato tutti i doccini a inizio stagione” (cosa impossibile). Invece di sostituirlo hanno chiamato la signora delle pulizie, che ha riempito il doccino con un prodotto, probabilmente uno sgrassatore, assolutamente inadatto a togliere la muffa: una scena grottesca che non ha risolto nulla.||Il bagno è un loculo per quanto è piccolo, e la ventola non funzionava: era scollegata perché bruciata, ma qui tutti facevano finta di cadere dal pero. Alla fine abbiamo dovuto andare alla Coop lì vicino, comprare prodotti per la pulizia e cercare di pulire per quanto possibile mentre cercavamo un’altra sistemazione.||Chicca non da poco, asciugacapelli con supporto riparato con colla a caldo e cavi elettrici con isolante rovinato, foto allegata.||||A un certo punto, mentre cercavamo di riposare su un letto che sembrava un sasso per quanto era duro, è arrivata una puzza di fumo indescrivibile. Siamo scesi, abbiamo cercato il numero della signora in reception e l’abbiamo contattata: ci manda l’unica persona veramente gentile e comprensiva della struttura, un signore anziano (di cui non ricordo il nome), onesto e visibilmente dispiaciuto, quando il resto del personale palesemente tende a minimizzare i problemi e non dà una buona impressione.||Da dove veniva la puzza? Dalla ventola rotta e scollegata in bagno: qualcuno fumava in altre camere e la puzza tornava dal condotto, ed era fortissima. Ci hanno proposto altre stanze per il cambio: sinceramente abbiamo preferito restare dove eravamo, perché le altre stavano ancora peggio, soprattutto i bagni, in cui la doccia era “chiusa” da tendine così macchiate/sporche e muffe che facevano venire il voltastomaco; pavimenti bagnati e in alcuni casi rialzini di plastica che nemmeno nel peggior campeggio.||||La piscina? Acqua torbida, lasciate perdere: una pozzetta, tutta prospettiva nelle foto. Ho anche letto recensioni recenti sul noto motore di ricerca che confermano la stessa situazione: niente è cambiato.||||Fortunatamente siamo riusciti a trovare un’altra struttura privata durante una notte insonne per il caldo e nervoso (non è stato facile, tutto pieno) e siamo scappati via la mattina dopo, dopo due giorni d’inferno in cui più volte ho avuto l'idea di chiamare l'asl ma sapevo che avrei perso tempo di una vacanza già compromessa se avessi seguito questa via. Immaginate il caldo, il non potersi lavare per paura di prendersi qualcosa in doccia, dover comunque uscire per godersi almeno il posto e contemporaneamente cercare una soluzione per scappare mentre tutti gli hotel sono al completo: mezza vacanza rovinata.||||Ho ottenuto un rimborso parziale contattando Booking, ma non senza resistenze da parte di Melita(?) e, sotto richiesta esplicita di non fare recensioni, da parte del proprietario che diceva che “li avrebbe distrutti”. La scusa finale: “la struttura è vecchia, che pretendi? Costa anche poco”. Ok, costa poco, ma nelle foto non c’è la schifezza che abbiamo trovato; e poi “poco” mica tanto, visto che per la stessa cifra ho trovato un appartamento grande, tenuto perfettamente e con piscina privata. Mi spiace non poter fare il nome di quest’ultimo qui perché merita davvero e ci ha salvato la vacanza.||||Ho taciuto fino ad ora, ma leggendo le recensioni recenti sul noto motore di ricerca con gli stessi problemi riscontrati da noi, mi viene da pensare che nulla sia cambiato in un anno. Mi sento anche abbastanza in colpa per le vacanze rovinate ad altri non scrivendo quanto accaduto fin da subito. Su Booking le recensioni sono fin troppo positive: mi viene il sospetto che la formula “rimborso in cambio del silenzio” faccia un enorme danno a chi prenota solo dalla piattaforma e non verifica altrove, come purtroppo abbiamo fatto anche noi. Purtroppo su Booking sono passati i 28 giorni per lasciare una recensione, quindi non posso scriverne lì: scrivo qui nella speranza di salvare la vacanza ad altri.||Vorrei anche precisare che durante la "concitata" discussione circa i rimborsi è saltato fuori che non eravamo i primi ad andarsene...||||Allego le poche foto che mi sono rimaste (avevo anche un video della stanza nel complesso ma non lo trovo).
