My Wife and I have just returned from a wonderful week at Hotel Porto Azzurro in Sirmione, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. The location is ideal, tucked away in a quiet part of Sirmione but close enough to explore the beauty of Lake Garda with ease. It’s a leisurely 30 to 40 minute walk to the port of Sirmione and around 10 minutes to a good selection of bars, restaurants gelato and a supermarket [COOP].|The pool area is spacious, well maintained with plenty of sunbeds and chairs, and a lovely spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Breakfast offered a generous and varied selection, with something to suit every taste, a great way to start each day.|We had a hire car during our stay, and parking was straightforward. The hotel has a car park that caters for around a dozen vehicles and there’s also free street parking available just outside which was very convenient if the carpark was full or busy.|All the staff members were friendly and attentive, from the front of house, restaurant staff and cleaners with a special mention to Andrea the barman, He greeted guests with a warm smile every time, remembered everyone’s orders, and went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome. His thoughtful service andpatience with my pigeon Italian added a personal touch that made a real difference, thank you Andrea.|If you're looking for a peaceful, well run hotel with genuine hospitality, Hotel Porto Azzurro is a fantastic choice. Read moreThe man working the reception, although friendly, was, on the first day we arrived, pressuring us into accepting a room that's so noisy our heartbeats were elevated and could not settle down to rest.
He told us lies which, he knew it was not true. See if you can figure this lack of logic in his statements when we complained about thumping sound on our ceiling in room 108.
Firstly: 'Its just children, they are playing'.
Then couple of hours later as the thumping continued: 'There is no other room above your celing' (so what children if there is nothing above us?)
Then he confessed: 'it's some heavy flowerpot on the roof' (and the wind is strong which causes them to rock when blown).
And he said he will shift them.
But the thumping continues.
When we asked to change rooms, this is what he says: 'it's the same for every room I the hotel, there will be this noise. It is the building'
When we then again went down to the reception to complain of continued noise, he relented and we got another room, which was totally quiet except for the hum from the fridge.
Why did he not solve it by giving another room right away is mystery.
Utter nonsense. We had to insist for three hours to get a room that we could rest in, all the while already tired out from our journey.
Never again will...
Read moreLovely small hotel. We booked after seeing positive comments on trip advisor and were not disappointed. Great staff who were so helpful and really seemed to work as a team to make your stay good. Hotel, pool and grounds were kept immaculately clean. We made a last minute booking in a "classic room" which was probably a bit more traditional in style than their other more modern rooms but suited our needs and was comfortable, clean and ideal as it was a quiet room on ground floor with outdoor seating overlooking gardens. |Wide range of fresh food for breakfast. The hotel doesn't do evening meals but does snacks/ light bites and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of hotel. |Hotel is located about 40 mins leisurely walk into the bustling historical centre of Sirmione. Alternatively a bus stops directly across from hotel for centre and runs around every 10 mins. A short walk to another bus stop takes you directly to Verona ( for only a few euros) and other lake destinations. We liked the quieter hotel location close to small marina and nice restaurants used by locals as well as visitors. |Staff were very helpful arranging taxis too and from airport ( approx half hour journey) as they can be busy so pre book for...
