Our room was quite small and dated and our bathroom very small and not as pleasant as the ones in other hotels we had stayed in, although my husband thought the shower the best one.||||We had a little balcony outside our room but we couldn't sit out there because I kept getting bitten by mosquitoes. As I had a few nasty bites, I didn't want to use the pool, which was a shame because it looked good but we spent a pleasant afternoon sitting and reading by it.||||The staff were friendly and the breakfasts good, with eggs cooked to order every day which was a great touch. The restaurant was not open in the evening but there were plenty of good restaurants around. The hotel recommended Civico 58 and given us a money-off voucher. This restaurant was very close to the hotel and the meal was excellent.||||There was very much an "end of season" feel to the place: the shuttle bus to Sirmione stops running after 29th September but the manager told us we could catch a bus near the hotel to Verona. We did this and had an excellent day in Verona. However, the bus never turned up for the return journey which turned into a bit of a trek with us catching a train, then walking, then another bus so take care going to Verona!||||We enjoyed a drink in the bar every night, even though we were the only ones there apart from the woman behind the bar. Their house red wine was really good for 4 euros a glass! The woman also recommended another good restaurant to us and gave us a map with all the restaurants on. It was a good place to...
Read moreMy family and I had a reservation earlier tonight at Le Gardenie. We were especially excited to try it as we had heard from friends how good the food was but we never actually got to eat there. We were allowed in through the gate but once we got to the reception area the maître d informed us that due to the weather there was no room for us. It wasn’t until I spoke up expressing my dissatisfaction and the fact it was raining, we had hungry kids and we didn’t have a back-up plan that he finally said he had a table but we would have to wait 15 minutes for it. I am fortunate to say that up until this experience I had never encountered such rude and elitist behavior. Maybe our family didn’t fit Le Gardenie profile - who knows. We eventually found a delightful restaurant who were happy to seat us and we were able to enjoy an fabulous meal. As a bit of background, my husband and I are a professional couple currently residing in LA (he’s American and I am a New Zealander) and we have two children aged 13 and 10. We are a foodie family and take great pleasure in seeking out yummy ‘finds’ on our travels - whether it be fine dining in Paris or a hole in the wall in Bali. Due to this horrible experience I would steer clear of Le Gardenie. Sirmione has a lot of other wonderful restaurants without attitude. Shame on...
Read moreMy family had a fantastic week staying here from 27th June to 4th July 2025 Where we then transfered to Stresa on Lake Maggiore. This is a very friendly well situated hotel that's just out of the centre of Simione, but ideally located for easy bus transfers or a nice walk along the side of the lake to the stunning centre of Simione We found it very easy to navigate from the hotel via bus to the other beautiful villages situated around the lake and also Verona is less than an hour bus ride. Theres also excellent restaurants close by and also a handy supermarket. The hotel is lovely we had a room that fitted myself and wife and three young adults. The room was always very clean and tidy when we came back from our days exploring and the shower was amazing. The pool is the perfect size to cool off and relax. The bar is great for drinks and snacks and the staff couldn't do enough for us and were all very helpful with advice, and the breakfast was delicious. Myself and my wife will be coming back to this hotel (but this time hopefully leaving our kids at home 🤞) Thank you for an amazing stay...
