Booked this hotel via booking.com and have to say I am very happy with what I received for the price I payed! ||This is a fairly small hotel located a few minutes from all the restaurants, shops and bars in Tropea centre. The beach is approximately 5 minutes walk away. The hotel has 4 floors and there is a lift. You can park outside the hotel. ||Check-in was simple and we were in our rooms within a couple of minutes of arriving. The standard rooms are plenty big enough for two people. We were two guys so asked for twin beds which we received. The room was very clean so credit to the maids here. The air conditioning worked and there was a small balcony. ||The breakfast bar located on the 4th floor was plenty big enough for the number of people staying at the hotel. Breakfast consists of croissants, bread/toas, cakes, fruits, cereal, jams and spreads. There's a fruit juice machine and also a hot drinks machine. Scrambled eggs and little sausages were also available in the self service trays. ||On the 2nd day of a 5 night stay we had no cold water in our room. I did advise reception and was assured this would be resolved. Later that day I did go down to reception again to ask when would it be resolved and was told it was resolved !! It hadn't but fortunately our friends had the room opposite. I showered in their room for the rest of my stay. I simply couldn't be bothered to complain again !! There was no bin in our room either which was inconvenient ! An ashtray for the balcony would have been good too.||The two girls on reception were very pleasant and friendly. The man on reception wasn't though. He was very rude and we heard lots of people complaining about his attitude. He was shouting at people as soon as they entered the hotel in the evening telling people to be quiet when they hadn't...
Read moreI have been here during november last year, so off-season. The reason i am giving this 4 star review is this: considering the fact that i've been here off-season, the place had all the necessities (the BASICS), like good food every morning, friendly staff, VERY clean ( they would change ALL the towels everyday, regardless of using them or not, swipe the floor everyday, which is amazing, considering the fact that we would sometimes bring home dust and sand from the beach on our feet, they would make the bed, let fresh air into the room, etc) and overall, you wouldn't miss anything.
But - and there's always a "but" with these type of hotels, especially in Italy - the staff didn't speak english (we were fortunate enough to have a friend with us that spoke a little italian, so things went smooth) , the bathrooms, especially the shower rooms were tiny, but very clean, the furniture is old (i HAVE to mention that none of the rooms had a normal couples mattress- they would just put two twin beds side by side, which was very disappointing since i was there with my newly fiancee and i was looking forward to cuddling, but luckily for him, he had a full 1-meter bed allllll for himself); because the furniture is old, you absolutely need to let fresh air in because it has that damp, mold-like smell to it. Be WARY of what side of the hotel your room is on. They might advertise them as having a beautiful sea view, but more than half of them are on the other side, in the back, and you might end up saying "buon giorno!" to a very annoyed old man in his PJs, trying to drink his coffee on a balcony 1,5 meter away from yours . So be sure to check on what side your room is. Overall, nice, cozy place, good for non-judgemental people that know how to have a good time and not stress the...
Read moreMy fiançée and I had a good time at La Perla. We stayed there for 2 weeks mid-June, the staff was very friendly and helpful and we would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the noise.
The room was spacious and had a great view on the sea from our balcony on the 3rd floor. The shower was too small but everything was functional (AC, TV etc). No fridge though.
The breakfast was simple but good : scrambled eggs, bacon, croissants, coffee, bread & cereals. The hotel is close to the city center (2min walk), the train station (10min), the beach (15min) and the supermarkets (Eurospin, Diperspesa).
The problem mainly comes from the panoramic breakfast room on the 4th floor. Since we stayed right below, we would hear a lot of chairs scraping on the floor every morning from 7 to 11. Since it is always open, people would go there late at night to smoke or just to chat. There's also a tendency to smash doors at any hour so we didn't get much sleep. I would recommend to avoid the 3rd floor because of that. And for the hotel to find a way to reduce the noise.
Otherwise it's a good value for money and the people working there were very nice with us. You should also know that not a lot of people can talk English in Calabria so you'd better practise your...
