first, great food. simple but tasty italian cooking. we are here for the second night in a row (and we are in tropea for only 4 days!) on two nights, we ordered scacco matto sea food platter (the appetizer), bresaola, ricola e grana, grilled vegetables, spaghetti with clam, swordfish ravioli, spaghetti aglio, olio, e pepperoncino. everything was tasty, and came in generous portion sizes.i was especially impressed with the grilled red onion (SO good), sea food sampler, both spaghetti dishes. my ravioli was proper al dente (something you never find in the US!) but what really impressed both me and my husband is the 5-star service provided by emanuele, our server. we are both world travelers from our work, and now we have been visiting southern italy every year for 5 years, months at a time. the service we received here is what you get at ritz carlton (the industry standard for hospitality!) something rare to come by these days, even in expensive places! emanuele brought out all the condiments, extra bread, extra plates, napkin, without us even asking! talk about being observant and attentive. and both times, they offered us complimentary limoncello and starter drinks. i would come here just to get a world class service! oh, did i mention that the price is also very reasonable? in a touristy town full of restaurants (most of which i am sure can cook up good italian dishes) service here really sets...
Read moreThis seafood restaurant was an absolute highlight of our trip. The waiter brought us a selection of freshly caught fish to choose from and we picked the Pagello Fragolino and wow, it was without a doubt the best fish I have ever eaten. Perfectly cooked, tender and bursting with flavour, it was simply unforgettable. The Tropea salad was the perfect side, fresh and beautifully balanced, and the local wine they served, made especially for this place, was outstanding. The prices felt completely fair for the quality. The chef even came out to check if everything was perfect and the staff were incredibly warm and attentive. If you are a fan of fish this place is an...
Read moreA disappointing dining experience. Our aperitif spritz was nearly all ice - hardly any Aperol. We then ordered a 1/4 litre of red wine, the only by the glass option. It was undrinkable. We asked if we could be served something else and were told no. (We would have happily paid a fair price to have a decent glass of wine.) My husband ordered a whole grilled fish and I ordered the tuna which were both well-prepared. The side tomato salad was a disappointment - clearly supermarket tomatoes. Surely they could do better in later September. The service was also a low point. Both servers (brother & sister perhaps?) exuded a lack...
